Course Curriculum Overview
The biotech course curriculum covers almost all subjects that are relevant at atleast the most basic level Another good thing offered by the University and the life science department are multi disciplinary courses and skill enhancement courses In multidisciplinary courses you are taught a subject of your choosing from another department other than the one that you belong to for example if you belong to the life science department you can choose courses from the English department or others but not from the life science department The course also requires you to complete atleast 24 days of hands of internship and this really keeps the students ready for the real-world The teaching methods could be a little better as at this point most faculty teach like school teachers and I expect more at a university level The frequency of exams is first around of assignments then a mid sem exam then another set of assignments then finally an end semester exam
Internships Opportunities
Internship is mandatory for all courses for atleast 24 days and the place of internship is completely upto the student where they want to do their internship at During the course of the internship faculty will be keeping track of your progress and you are required to provide weekly reports of your work At the end of the internship a final presentation is to be presented to faculty and the hod
Placement Experience
Students are eligible for campus placements from their 6th semester onwards Many top international companies like Hyundai and Google visit the campus as well as Indian companies too Im not sure about the highest package offered by companies but I have heard that it can go up to 7Lpa Almost all students get placed 80-90% Although getting placed right after a BSc degree is great it's probably a good idea to peruse a master's and maybe even a PhD
Fees and Financial Aid
For nri : 2,00,00 For Indians 1,70,00 For kannadigas 1,50,00 Scholarships are available Registration fee is 5000 During the duration of the course during labs if anything is misplaced or broken you will have to pay a fine for the breakage or lost item the cost vareys based on the item lost or broken
Campus Life
There's always somthing going on on campus almost everyday from food stalls to music performances but probably the most memorable is basha utsav cultural day and darpan There are also sports teams and many inter deanery and inter department sports events that happen throughout the year and the university team even participates in inter University competitions There are also many student clubs, societies and associations that organise many events, some organisations organise regular hiking trips and field visits to many places All the classrooms and labs are fairly modern with projecters and labs having a lot of advanced equipment The libraries are also an incredible resource for the students with a wide selection of books with everything from ug topics to pg topics
Admission
I had initially only applied to Christ University but later as a safety net I had also applied to kristu jayanti and I had been accepted into both so I didn't get rejected by any of the college's I choose Christ because of the better facilities and the campus life and the amount of fests and events and clubs that are available To be eligible for the biotech course at Christ university you have to complete 12th with a minimum of 65% marks. Once you have applied online you must attend a face to face interview after which you will be informed if you have been selected or not after a week or so. For some other courses you are also required to write the Christ entrance exam as part of the selection process
Faculty
All the faculty are very approachable and are ready and willing to help in all aspects even outside of academics Some faculty like Dr Suma and Dr Joel of the life science department even give their guidance and advice on our own personal projects (as long as it's relevant to the subject ofcourse) When it comes to assignments and exams it can feel like they are never ending but with proper time management it can be easily managed but that's easier said than done
Night Life
The college also provides gym facilities at the rate of 500 per month and is open in the mornings from 5 30 to 7 and in the evening from 5 to 6 30 The college hostel is also in campus and provides its students with 3 meals a day and also medical facilities and gym facilities There are plenty of famous hangout places around the college from Nexus mall nearby and bobs bar in Koramangala but one of the spots that is near to many of the students hearts is pistachio cafe that is located right outside the campus backgate and is almost always crowded even till 8 in the night
