- College have a gym that is open all 7 days from 6AM to 9PM, hence people can go to gym anytime they like.
- Department labs are well equipped with all kind of things required, it not like we cannot perform some experiment because a chemical is missing.
- The campus life is pretty good, as you have many gardens to hangout and there are local as well as branded food shops to eat.
Dislikes
- College is very far away from city. From jalandhar city railway station it is almost 15 kms which is a journey of around 45 mins in an auto ride.
- College campus are is only 154 acres, it is among the smallest campus in all NIT, so after some time there are no new places to explore in college.
- The curriculum is very difficult as compared to other colleges, as the syllabus is updated every year to meet the industry requirements.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course of chemical engineering is very relevant to the current industry. The syllabus us updated every year to meet the industry standards. Also with chemical engineering you can opt for courses from other deprarments as you like. We are also taught courses like economics essential to analyse the real life situtaions and help make life deicisons based on them. The faculty teaches the course mainly focusssing on placements and motivate students to write research papers as their minor and major projects. The syllabus matches a lot to GATE chemical syllabus.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am general other state student in chemical branch and my family income bracket is greater than 5LPA so my fees per semester is Rs. 88,000. There is no other registration fee for the college. The fees for general category with income with between 1LPA and 5LPA is Rs. 43,600 per semester and for family income less than 1LPA the fees per semester is Rs. 25,500. SC/ST students have a discounted fee (less than general and OBC). Scholarship does not provide scholarship but approves scholarship from other organisations.
Campus Life
The college provides a very good campus life. There is one techincal fest "Techniti" every odd semester and one cultural fest "Utkansh" every even semester. You have many clubs : Robotics, Dance, Music, Esports, Bhangra, Drone, Photography and many more. I assure you there will be a club that will serve your interest. Also there are a lot of sports team in our college : athletics, basketball, football, volleyball, table tennis. These teams go for inter NIT competitions every year and mostly win. There is a student lead for each club and a faculty coordinator to help coordinate with formalities. College provides a roome to each club as well.
Admission
I had an option to choose core branch in some government college or computer science in some private college. I chose this college beacuse I would get the NIT tag, which differentiates a lot from others. Also if you apply to masters outside India, NIT and IIT tag helps a lot. I specifically chose NIT Jalandhar becuase of it's NIRF rank. It tanks better than other NITs (hamirpur, srinagar) I was getting. Also NIT Jalandhar placement is better than many NIT and IIIT. You need to score a decent rank in JEE Mains and apply on JOSSA for counselling, there you will give your prefernece order of college and branch you like, be carefull filling this.
Faculty
The faculty of chemical department is strict overall year but is lenient in checking of papers. For chemical department the faculty to student ratio for our class is 87. Almost all the faculty members have PHD from IIT so they know a lot about the subject they are teaching. The faculty sets difficult papers to test the students both on practical and real life based sceanrios. You can contact the faculties after the class by simply visiting thier office, also the faculty is needed sends the message through class representative if any announcement is to be made. Overall the faculty is strict but good people by heart.
Night Life
College night life is good. You cannot go to jalandhar city after 8PM but inside facilities are very good. You have dominos and nescafe inside the campus, also there exist some local cheap canteens. There are many places build inside the campus for the students to sit. Both boys and girls in time from second year is 10pm, so you can roam freely inside college till 10PM which is not there is other private and government college. You cannot go the faculty quarters else all places are open to students, also guards are there almost eveyrwhere so you do no need to worry about some abuse or theft.
