Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum for the 1st year is stereotypical. They teach basic concepts collected from every branches. Some subjects like EVS , Biology , polymer seem really boring. Whereas subjects like Mathematics , Basic Electronics and Basic Electrical engineering are very interesting. They teach C language in Basic programming. But in this AI era they should shift towards python . it is the opinion of most of the students.

Internships Opportunities

4

The students apply for internships during the summer break in 2nd year based on their skills. But the college provides mandatory internship in 3rd year. Yes, they are quite helpful for the interviews and essential to know the corporate life.

Placement Experience

4

This year over 300 companies visited our college and made over 1300 job offers. The highest placement was 1.2cr/year made by an IT company to an Electronics and Instrumentation Branch student. The average package of out institute is around 12LPA and in the CS branch it is around 18LPA. Almost 95% students got placed this year and this is a general trend every year.

Campus Life

4

The campus life is quite enjoyable and remarkable. So The Student Activity Center(SAC) conducts 4 notable fests in every academic year. The Cosmopolitan Fest- Cultural Fest held in end of October The Innovision - Technological fest held in beginning of November The Vriddhi - Sports Fest- held in the month of January The NITRutsav - The Annual fest of NIT-R - held in the month of March. *Our college is full of clubs and social groups. Some of the notable Clubs are APS(Algorithmic & Programming Society) , ML4E(Machine Learning for Everyone) , different song and dance clubs and many more.

Hostel Facilities

3

The Mess food is not bad. It is adjustable. But we deserve better quality food as we are paying 60k/yearly. The rooms provided to the students in 1st year is double sharing rooms. NOT at all spacious. We have to adjust it forcefully.

Admission

After getting a decent rank in JEE Mains, the first college which striked my mind was NIT Rourkela. Although the branch I got was quite astonishing adn unexpected. I chose this college because of its rich history and heritage. Its placement stats are quite decent and attracts most of the students. As I am also a native Odia, it was nearest to my hometown, so it was also a secondary reason to choose this college.

Faculty

4

So we have ABSOLUTE grading system here. Some faculties are really friendly and co operative whereas some are typical professors shown in the movies. It's not that hard to qualify in an exam but yes if someone neglects throughout the sem it is obvious that they will fail undoubtedly. The 100 mark breakdown is as follows- 30 in the mid sem 50 in the end sem 20 in Class test & TA marks(based on class performance)

Night Life

4

So the 1st year students are assigned VS Hall Of residence hostel. Our campus is completely ragging free. Every hostels are accompanied with gyms tv room study room and respective mess. The library is the main attraction of our college. It has over 20k+ books within it. The famous hang out places in the campus are The Hexagon , The Dosa Plaza , Main Academic Building, DTS . Some places like The park , The PLUTONE & Forum Galleria malls are the hang out places outside the campus.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I mainly chose this course because the college is Autonomous, which allows them to update the syllabus faster than standard university colleges; seeing subjects like Python and Data Science in the early semesters really influenced my decision. The curriculum is decent for getting placed in service-based companies like TCS or Wipro since they focus heavily on the basics and aptitude, though for high-end product roles or research, you have to put in extra effort yourself. I definitely think they need to reduce the theory load and focus more on practical coding because sometimes it feels like we are just writing assignments instead of building things. Also, the junior faculty rely too much on reading from slides, which really needs to change to make classes more engaging. As for exams, it feels like we are always writing them since we have two internals and one end-semester exam per term. They are moderately difficult and the checking is strict, so you can't slack off, but the tight schedule can get quite exhausting.

Students are eligible for placement from their 3rd year onwards. It has been only 2-3 months but I have seen several companies arriving at the college, prominent ones being Flipkar,Deloitte, Xerox, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Microsoft, Dell and several others including startups. There is no accurate data on how many offers have been made this year, but there are rumours that more than 95% of the eligible students have got placements. After getting a degree my plans are if I dont land into a satisfying job then I will start my preparation of the military or start a new business.
