What Students Say
Likes
- The campus is very green and has an artificial lake within it, making it a very nice place to be at.
- The college hosts a very nice inter-collegiate fest called 'verve', it is very well recieved and considered one of the best in the vicinity.
Dislikes
- The crowd at the college is quite mixed, there's people that are not very nice to hang out with.
- The club culture at the university is still in its infancy, leading to an underwhelming college experience.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) due to the wide array of topics covered in the course. The course could be improved by making practicals and practically oriented activities, like long term projects worth more of the CGPA. The frequency of examinations is higher compared to universities in other states of the country. There are no mid-sems, we only have CIE's (Continous Internal Evaluation). This means that there are going to be 3 examinations apart from the endsems that take place instead of a midsem, causing more undue stress. The CIE's are usually moderate in difficulty, just take time to prepare for.
Placement Experience
The placements of my college are pretty average, at around 6-7LPA. The students become eligible for the placements in 6th, 7th semesters. Some examples of companies that have attended the placement drive are Bosch, Mercedes Benz R&D, Juspay, Accenture, etc. My plans after getting the degree include getting a master's degree abroad in a specialization of my choice.
Fees and Financial Aid
The year wise fees that I will be paying as a COMEDK entrant, including all the charges (Admission + Tuition + Miscellaneous) are 3,07,000Rs. The total fees for 4 years Including stay/Hostel will hover around 16,00,000Rs (Including Hostel Fees of 93000Rs/year). Residents of Karnataka who are eligible to give KCET exam, can avail the same course for around 1,20,000 a year.
Campus Life
The annual fest is called 'verve' usually conducted in May/June. There are 2-3 other fests that occur during the year that are nothing spectacular but worth attending. Another great cultural event that occurs is the Kannada Rajyotsava Celebrations, which include a car/bike rally and really bring the campus alive. The facilities within the college campus are pretty mediocre. All classrooms have a projector and a projector screen alongside a chalkboard, nothing more. The club culture at JSSATEB is in its infant phase, new clubs such as under25, ATHARVA and STEP have come into full capacity only this year.
Admission
I applied to bennett university, Noida and flame university, Pune. I got into both of those universities but ended up choosing JSSATEB due to its fee structure and me being a native of Bangalore. To get into JSSATEB, you can write COMEDK, KCET or you can avail direct admission through management quota. cutoffs for COMEDK and KCET generally range between 20000-25000 for CSE. KCET is preferred by most people local to Karnataka as the fees is a approximately 1/3rd the fees of COMEDK and exponentially cheaper than Management Quota Admissions.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is alright, approximately 1:60. The faculty themselves are quite friendly, they are very approachable and are often open to doubt clearing at any time of day. They are all accessible through Whatsapp and have often been helpful even at midnight. some faculties that indulge in conversations that are not relevant to the course and are not well-versed with the course knowledge, one such professor is Mrs. Anu from the IoT department.
Night Life
The college library is open until 9PM, apart from that everything else is closed within college timings (4:45PM). The Boys Hostel gates close at 10:30PM. The locality gets pretty deserted at night but the college is located in a suburb of Bangalore that is primarily populated with college-going students due to the sheer number of universities in the area, so its pretty decent in terms of safety,
