Remarks

As the name suggests, the EFL University focuses entirely on the study of English and foreign languages(asian, european, etc.), so my preference for this University is supported by the fact that the courses and syllabus of study allows me to conduct in-depth learning of whichever course I am admitted into (be it foreign language, literature, language teaching, Linguistics, etc). Sure, other colleges also have well established departments but I just feel like English learning is broader and more enjoyable at EFLU considering it’s prestige. Apart from EFLU, i applied to DU, NEHU, JNU, Pondicherry Uni, Mount Carmel, Madras University, Ambedkar University Delhi, and Loyola College, Chennai. Out of these i was short listed to Pondicherry University and DU. I had to write entrance exams/online interviews for Mount Carmel, Madras Uni and Loyola. However, I did not proceed with those interviews because EFLU amnounced their shortlisted candidates earlier on. Admission process: For admission, one must appear the CUET according to the requirements of the course you are interested to apply to. After which you apply through an online application posted in the university website with your CUET score. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of CUET score plus on merit basis. The cutoff score for General category might be around 250+ but it depends on that year’s general performance score. Minorities may get through with a score within 80-200.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

The strength of a classroom depends on the popularity of the paper and faculty. Thus the maximum capacity varies from one paper to another. Each programme generally has 30 students each except the cafeteria programme which has about 80-100 students. You have to attend the initial classes and have correspondence with the concerned faculty to have your name listed for that paper. I have observed that the number of female students are much more than male students. A 3:5 ratio of boys to girls might be the general case the class. There is thorough class participation although no marks are awarded for such. Many teachers make an effort to allow their students to ruase queries and debates. Just like any other college, the classroom is divided between sincere students and the lot who make it to class just for attendance. Owing to the location of Hyderabad, most peers are southern indians. Few North easterns also join yearly thanks to the ST reservations. The language programmes greatly allow foreign students to join the university. I personally have met a lot Nigerian, Arabian, East Asian, and Russian students and teachers in campus.

Internships Opportunities

1.5

There are no internship programmes for the MA programmes at EFLU although BA students and B.ed students have a summer internship programme specific to their courses. I have heard they have been very successful especially the internship programmes of the B.ed courses. These internships happen to be all unpaid and work is conducted under NGOs like Nirmaan.org and Youngistaan.

Fees and Financial Aid

MA fee structure Semester I tuitions (General/ OBC) ₹550 total fees ₹4260 tuitions (ST/SC) ₹550 total fees ₹3080 Semester II and IV (General/ OBC) ₹2440 (ST/SC) ₹1260 Semester III (General/ OBC) ₹2925 (ST/SC) 1260 ₹1745 Total fees payable in the two years programme for general category is ₹14,245 and for ST/SC category is ₹6,085 Thus, EFLU is the most affordable university under the central government while still holding a prestigious record. Hostels are very affordable and you can get by around 8000-10000 in your pocket which will necessitate for your security deposit, monthly rent, mess deposit, crockery fees and a monthly stipulated mess bill. The college provides for a merit-cum- means scholarship that is accessible to any student with a family annual income of less than 1,50,000 or any ST/SC/OBC students, applications for which are provided in the university website and can only be submitted through an HOD

Campus Life

2

The campus infrastructure is a mixture of old vintage building and newer more advanced ones. There are gyms for boys and girls and international students. A big, clean and beautiful joggers park for everyone. Beautiful lawns where students hang out in the evenings. A beautiful library. Cafeteria, grocery store, pharmacy, bank, ATM, Print shops are all present within the campus so everything is easily accessible. Food stalls and tea stalls are also available. There us a football ground, a huge sports complex for basketball, volleyball, table tennis and board games. All these are within easily walkable distances inside the campus. You don’t even need a bike to get around! Although there are several bicycles that students can make use of. Personal bikes and cars are also allowed. The university health centre is always helpful to the students. Doctors are posted there in the evenings and medications are provided for free to students. The open amphitheater is a favourite among the students. Festivals and events can be held there and it creates a lovely ambience in the evenings. There are guest houses in the campus where family members can reside and are charged according to the number of days they stayed for (around ₹65 per day)Campus life is chill and pleasant here. The area is on the outskirts of the main city area amd is more pf a residential place. There is not much noise and hustle bustle.Students are usually sitting around on the VC lawns, benches, playing football, around the canteen, at the sports complex or going out to clubs and parties. Canteen is open till midnight and the students here don’t even sleep at night i feel. There’s always people outside at any hour. The campus is fully gated and guards are posted in strategic areas 24x7 so it makes a very safe area for women. The festivals held by the foreign languages departments are the most celebrated ones here. We get to dive into foreign cultures and relish food, clothing and habits of new places. Onam amd diwali are loved by many. The closest thing to seeing a famous celebrity in campus was having the CM of Telangana over for an event. There are few clubs but it is not a madatory obligation to be in one. Poetry, music, film, debate are some of the few clubs I have heard of.

Hostel Facilities

1.5

There are numerous hostels for all kinds of students inside thr campus. There are girls hostels, boys hostels, international girls hostel, international boys hostel separately. There is one Basheer boys hostel for male students, 2 hostels for female students, 1 boys hostel for male international students and 1 hostel for international female students. All hostels have several guards posted around them and the opposite sex isn’t allowed into these hostels. Hostel accommodation happens on a first come first basis but preference is given to out-station students who are not from Hyderabad. Hostel rooms may range from double to triple seaters and fee structures are the same for all students except on the basis of category. The hostels have no particular curfews. There is a different mess hall and kitchen for every hostel. Average mess bill comes upto 2500-3000 a month. A card system is utilized wherr they mark whenever you eat from the mess and thr bill is calculated at the end of the month according to the number of times you had your food from there. The mess food is adequate and balanced. Each month a mess secretary is chosem from among the hostellers to bring out a menu according to everyone’s food preferences. Food quality is superb if you enjoy south indian cuisine. Rice, chapatis, sambar, curries(veg and non veg), curd, desserts are provided. If you dont have a mess card, you can always buy a token and eat from the mess. The hostels can accommodate about 600 students each. A majority of rooms are double seaters where you can pick a roommate of choice or you are either alloted one. Some bigger rooms accommodate 3 students while some really small single seatets are offered to phD students only. No one is permitted to live alone. Each floor has four wings and each wing has a common washroom with several bathroom and toilet stalls and sinks. There are cleaning akkas/annas in each floor who clean everyday. Bathrooms have geysers but there are no ACs in the hostel. Each room has two ceiling fans, beds, almirahs, tables, chairs and shelves for each occupants. There is a study room in every hostel. Water coolers and fridges in every wing on each floor. There is a courtyard inside the hostel where students can play badminton.

Exam Structure

Admission process: Admission to any BA, MA programme in the EFL University demands for an interested candidate to appear the CUET(Common universities entrance test) conducted by NEP in the same year of application to the university. After CUET scores are released, EFLU will promptly announce their admission dates during which you have to adequately apply to their application form provided online in their website within the estimated timeline. After the application portal closes, candidates eligible for admission will be temporarily shortlisted. The university announces the different dates of admission for various programmes and short listed candidates are expected to come to campus in person and sign against their names to show your interest in admission. Later during the same day of signing, a final list of candidates will be put up in the bulletin boards which you have to check. If your name falls above the maximum intake number, you may proceed with documents verification and payment of fees with the officials. You may try for a seat even if your name is way below the maximum intake rank as not everyone ahead of you will come for the interview and there are high chances to get in if you make it to the campus physically. After thr first round of admissions are completed, should there be any empty seats in a programme, a second round of online application is issued. New candidates may apply for this but if you have previously applied and did not get through the first round, you may wait to be shortlisted in the second round of admissions. The cutoff score for General category might be around 250+ but it depends on that year’s general performance score. Minorities may get through with a score within 80-200. After admission is completed classes begin on the estimated dates given in the website. My admission happened on the 20th and classes commenced from the 1st of september .

The course is very hectic since we always have to go for fieldwork anf manage the theories too ...Yes some srudents do have back paper when they dont do well in agency. Msw is great because it teaches you alot it gives the person exposure and experiences where one will gain confidence and discover their skills and potentials. 1.Some bad aspects might me the mental health of students because were have ti handle alot of pressure, right from reports, to agency works till saturday so most of the time we dont get time for ourselves because sundays we hv to complete the work plus with the assignmenta and presentations so sometimes were expected to give alot to the field in our agency so we're pressured alot thus hampering the mental health of the students.. 2 exams internal exams and final exams. We have 5 claseses ,Class timings are from 9 30 to 1 pm followed by IC /Gc maximum 3pm we leave college. The teaching methodology:Weaving change. The teacher whom i admired most was my fieldwork supervisor Ms I Dorphang i always look upto her and whenever i see her i feel happy and energetic because she is very youthful and have always taught us to be creative and to think critically and to always grap the opportunities that we get. She always have confidence in me and motivates me which i think is what i really love about her and she corrects me when im wrong without making me feel bad. Yes 75 percent attendance is mandatory brcause some my seniors were really not allowed to sit for exams and for fieldworks if we miss one day we have to always compensate.
