Course Curriculum Overview

5

We are following CBME curriculum.. we are trying to achieve all the competencies a good doctor should have effectively. I personally felt like the frequencies of exams should be increased. So that students are exposed to more questions and they are thorough with the topics .. Introduction of MCQ in exams will bring a strong foundation for pg exams

Internships Opportunities

3

So as a house surgeon there will be 24 hour shifts and 36 hour shifts .. posting in all areas are covered . They will be paid around 30000 monthly . Rooms are available at night for resting . Securities for monitoring.

Placement Experience

4

There is one year of internship for final year passed students. They will work as house surgeons.. other than this ESIC students have a bond opportunity for extra one year .They have to work in any esic hospital for one more year

Fees and Financial Aid

I'm paying around 30,000 as tution fees. On the time of registration we paid 30,000 as tution fees .. 9000 as students union fees .. 15,000 as pta fees .. 5000 for hostel enrollment. Around 5000 for text books and around 1200 for cns kit and dissection kit .. I'm getting egrantz scholarship for OBC category.i will get the same amount as of my tution fees. And rs 500 monthly as pocket money .

Campus Life

3

The Central Library of our college has almost all medical books for reference. A calm reading room and a special students study hall where students do compaign studies . Since it's a developing college , sports and arts activities are comparatively less but still we were runner up for sports competition. The best function in the college is obviously convocation of house surgeons which happens In the month of June .

Hostel Facilities

3

WE have to pay rs 600 monthly for hostel accomodation. And around 4000 for students mess . Initially we have to pay around 5000 for hostel enrollment.very few pg rooms are available. A single room is shared by 4. Common bathroom, washing machines, study hall , game areas and boilers available

Admission

Since it's a government college admission is based upon the rank in NEET. Better ranks offer better colleges .Since our college is an ESIC hospital, their are seat reservations for esic students And there are cubicles in our colleges for helping students with admission procedures .

Faculty

5

So first year we are having 3 subjects. Physiology , Anatomy and biochemistry. °ANATOMY is mostly dissection based studies and for every 25 students their will be 2 proffersors to monitor them . °PHYSIOLOGY and BIOCHEMISTRY proffessors teach by ppt's and seminars . One of my favourite Faculty is Dr Rajad sir . He is a doctor by profession but a great writer .I liked his work " Body Lab ". And In physiology department we have three proffessors who are always together; Dr Geeshma , Dr Diveen and Dr Aneesh .They encourage us in the field of extra curricular activities. Their classes will be fun as they used to bring musical instruments and sing in our class..Dr Ashish K Joey , a professor from biochemistry department is a famous music composer. He used to motivate us whenever we are broke. Dr Mohan sir is a cool man who always inspire by his travel vlogs .We greatly admire Dr Vandana mam who made us fell in love with anatomy.Dr Jessy mam have a special talent in teaching us CNS topics in the most simplified form . Dr Bindu mam and Dr Shamha mam are two faculties from Biochemistry department who supports us when we face the most hardest times. Still their are many more proffessors yet to be mentioned . We have regular short exams... 3 sessional exams and one final university exams along with practical exams.. it's not that much tough ..regular studies and practice, understanding the basic concepts would top the exams .

Night Life

3

Very few gyms and cafeterias around the campus. Nightlife is so calm apart from the attacks of mosquitoes. The famous hangout spot near the college is Varkala cliff .. it has many cafes and water activities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course not due to the curriculum..i qlways dreamed of becoming a good doctor. The level.of satisfaction you get in this profession wont be anywhere else. The modernization of curriculum has stressed on the clinical aspects which i think is the core of medicine. We have been taken to bedside and taught to examine patients diagnose the case and interpret imaging. Also the skill lab clears the obstruction we face in a real life like we are being trained in BLS and ALS. Our junior batches are also taken to trivandrum medical college to see autopsy which in fact is a real opportunity. The course could improve in a way that apart from academics it must give importance to sports arts also which is not promoted in our college. Also revisions classes can be made effects by conducting small test papers chapter wise instead of taking chapters on repetition. Exams are almost done in an effective way. The course is actually very difficult compared to others. So much effort has to be put in from both students and Teacher's side.

I chose MBBS as it has been one of my dreams since my childhood and it's my parent's dream more than mine. Faculties teaching in the First year min qualification is a master of science in the particular subject and from the second year onwards the minimum qualification is MBBS for every faculty. Three exams per year and you have to pass any one exam to write in university exam and it's somewhat difficult to pass if you start studying at last

Remarks:

The hostel and college infrastructure are a little poor compared to other colleges but it is expected with the minimal fees given. There are a lot of festivals and programs and a healthy political atmosphere. The non violent conflicts between the two opposing parties lead to good development in the college.
