What Students Say
Likes
- There are many caretakers inside the hostel who take good care of students
- Campus infrastructure is good and well maintained and the buildings look beautiful with the scenic background
- Classrooms are modern and the wooden aesthetic looks great. There are also a lot of parks and a lot of trees making the air quality great. I love being connected with nature
Dislikes
- Campus area is small thus lesser facilities in the campus but the necessary ones are there
- College fests aren't as expected and slightly disappointing due to many restrictions. Funds for fests are not nearly enough thus making them disappointing
- Girls to boys ratio is 1:5 which is not very good. Girls should be more in number
Course Curriculum Overview
The main reason to choose this specific course was that it was out of necessity of the college tag. The tag of NIT in itself is very huge and of great influence in the job aspects as well as the society. But coming here made me realise that the course i chose is of great relevance to my own interests as it includes structures of buildings etc. The curriculum is great for anyone who has a passion for Civil engineering and aspires to do great things in the field. The faculty, teaching methods as well as the curriculum for Civil engineering is excellent and is of great importance compared to other colleges because it was first established in 1965 and thus has very experienced faculty. The frequency of exams is good in my opinion and the difficulty level is moderate to high depending on the difficulty of the course.
Internships Opportunities
As of now there are paid internship opportunities provided to us of popular courses. There are plenty of such opportunities as a result of which most first years have applied for one such internship with a stipend of 15000 to 20000 with the course fee ranging from 3000 to 4000.
Placement Experience
Im from first semester so i dont really know about placements very well but 3rd year seniors are perfectly eligible for placement opportunities normally its just hard for them to get placements in 3rd year. I have two main plans after getting a degree. 1st is to get a placement at a PSU which will enable me to secure a well paying job and the other is to get a job in the IT sector .
Fees and Financial Aid
Tuition fees- 91500 per semester Hostel fees- 24500 per semester Mess fees- 21000 per semester I belong to the OBC-NCL category, female, outside Jammu & Kashmir category. The tuition fees for General and OBC-NCL category (with no fees recession) is the very same. There are also ways to get fee recession depending upon the range of annual family income. The categories are: 1lakh to 2.5 lakh, 2.5 lakh to 5 lakh, and above 5 lakh. There is maximum fee recession for the first category where the tuition fee gets to 0 while the fees one needs to pay is hostel and mess fee.
Campus Life
Overall experience of campus life is moderate since the people you'll meet here are great and you can definitely enjoy the scenic beauty by going on trips etc. but the club involvement is very less since they take very few people into clubs. 2 students from each year for each club. There are more than 8 clubs ranging from sargam club and cultural clubs to technical clubs, they have clubs of all interests.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facility is not good for first years but the hostels are well maintained for 2nd 3rd and 4th years which is a great thing. But keep in mind that there are at least 4 people in a room for 1st years and it is quite congested. 1 bed is provided while almirah and table and chair is on your own luck. Again these are provided to seniors which is great. Meal quality is really bad but the hygiene quality is fine fine.
Admission
I applied for JOSAA and CSAB counselling in the hopes of getting admission into IITs, NITs, IIITs and other government colleges. I also applied for Jamia Millia Islamia University, Delhi for BTech in Electrical and Computer Engineering and in Delhi University for BTech in Electrical Engineering. I got a confirmed seat into both of these but decided against taking admission there and chose this college over them mainly because the course here fits my interests better and because of the tag of NIT which is very very valuable in these times considering job aspects. The admission process into BTech in Civil Engineering at NIT Srinagar is through JEE Mains exam through JOSAA and CSAB counselling where CSAB is the most preferred by students. The cutoffs vary by a lot every time
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is 7:180 for my course. The faculty are very well educated and skilled. They are easy to approach and friendly to talk to but some of them may be super strict. As long as one is disciplined and addresses them with respect, im positive that the professors are easy to talk to. There are a total of 8 semesters in the course and in each semester there are 2 main exams. One midterm and one end semester exam worth 26 marks and 50 marks respectively. Discipline/assignments/attendance/class behaviour is worth 24 marks thus making up a total of 100 marks for each semester. We recently gave our mid term exams and each exam had a duration of 75 minutes. The classroom for exams was really nice with an AC as well and the invigilators were very strict to ensure no unfair means were used during the exam. There is even stricter surveillance during end term exams.
