Course Curriculum Overview

3

Mechanical engineering isn't very popular in my state which is Nagaland and being a girl, it's very rare to see many people pursue that course so i choose it. Though it was my father who wanted me to. The knowledge that is imparted on the students in the classroom is very limited if compared to real- world applications. They don't know how to teach so they leave out the complex and important topics which are very necessary. It will be really helpful to the university and the students if they actually appoint qualified and good faculties, the university needs to focus more on how to produce students who are intellectual and can actually implement what they've learned in the classrooms in the real world. Exam levels are okay but not for everyone. I personally think the papers that are set are not bad.

Internships Opportunities

3

The internships I've done was searched and selected by myself. The only internship the university helps with is the final year internship which they pay half for. I don't know about projects yet but there is a major project in the last semester

Placement Experience

2

From 7th sem for btech and bpharm and 5th sem for other dept. No placement have arrived for my dept yet so i can't really say anything on that but no core companies, only sales, marketing and IT dept. I think the highest package is 12lpa and average is 2.5 lpa. I think only 30% gets placement. My plans after this degree is to find a job in some core companies and also prepare for govt exams.

Fees and Financial Aid

Semester fee for btech is 55000 but each year they collect extra 1200rs saying it's for club fess. For hostel, there are 4 categories, i live in 4 seater so my fee is 38000 per semester. They increased it last year but there was no benefits or anything, just increasing anything they can. Admission fee was 10000 and for hostel it was 10 or 20000. There are scholarships available for merit students. My friends from other dept like bpharm are paying more than 60000 since the fees have increased from 55000.

Campus Life

3

The only festival I've attended ever since i came here is tech aura which happened after many years. The libraries have a wide range of books but doesn't really have many of the important ones . We have a projector in the classroom that barely works, ac that breaks down everytime. Sports are played alot but university doesn't really pay much care to it but will take credit if the students win something. I don't know about the clubs, all i do is pay the yearly fees. Never heard or seen. Some competitions etc are held every once in a while.

Hostel Facilities

3

Hostel wardens barely speak English or hindi. Can't even communicate with them, also they're partial towards their own people and the others. I don't know why they're giving South Indian menu in a North East state, no hate to South Indian food but it's not for everybody, especially us north east people who prefer spicy over sweet. Dirty environment and rude servers and rude security guards. Hostel fees gets increased but we don't see any changes in the facilities which is not good

Admission

I choose this college cause i saw that there was a really amazing fest which was shown online but is not actually happening after i came here. I was accepted in st Edmunds college, Shillong but i didn't choose that cause my dad didn't want me to go there. Admission process for my college is easy, can do it online. Eligibility criteria is very low so most people can get in.

Faculty

3

Most faculties favor only the students who are good in studies. Doesn't take classes most of the time. I like Tabassun ma'am cause she's nice, waits for us to understand the topic, teaches well and understands the students grievances. I don't really favor most of the faculties, can't understand a thing they're teaching since it's just copy paste from a textbook, not just me but all my classmates feel the same too. There's two sessional exams held every semester and the end semester exam. Many students have multiple backlogs due to attendance problem or definitely not studying and also cause the faculties don't set the question paper according to the level that they have taught which is very low.

Other Applied Colleges

St. Edmund's College | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons.} (Physics)

Because i got admission in engineering which my dad wanted me to take

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum they will show you before admission is completely different what you will be getting. They will be covering things but not with a higher level. In a subject easy topics will be covered but when teacher find any topic difficult , it will not come in exam since everyone has to pass the exam. They can just follow the GATE exam curruculum and that would be enough for any students to outperform after engineering with real time lap teaching. There is semister exam only where you will have to give workshop and lab exam along with theory paper

Placement Experience:

Placements start from 7th semester (4th Year). Companies like Amazon, Legato, TCS, Synopsis, etc. visit for on campus placements. We have a very good placement ratio and average package. For CSE, the average package was 13 LPA and 92% students were placed. While for ECE, the average package was 8 LPA and 66% students were placed. I'm planning on gaining work experience for 2 years after my B.Tech and then pursue MS Or M.Tech from abroad.

I choosed because my CEE marks which was 92 at that time was not enough to get admission in govt engineering colleges and the OBC cut off was 120+. So, in Whole northeast Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology is the no 1 and the oldest private engineering college and I decided to take admission there.

Placement Experience:

The placement scenario is quite good, with several reputed companies like General Electric, Power Grid Corporation of India, Goldman Sachs, among others recruiting 94 percent of the students in the college. The placement takes place in three rounds, one testing one's aptitude, followed by an hour round, finally leading on to a technical round. Mock interview and job cracking sessions are organized regularly, both by the departments, and also the Training and Placement Cell, to prepare students for the interviews and examinations going forward. The Training and Placement Cell also provides internship opportunities at the end of third year for the students, based on their aptitude and abilities

Remarks:

I have mostly positive remarks about college except for the fact that the college is situated really far from mainstream north India. Train connectivity is not that strong to rest of country. But despite that the college is extremely good in the sense of learning, meeting new innovative minds, and of course placements and jobs.
