Course Curriculum Overview
Geography includes a lot of sub departments, and has a lot of things to learn so we get a lot of knowledge on the current world issues as well. Geography as a subject is wonderful and has a rising career not just in India. The teaching method is mostly traditional on our college, and the frequency of exams is normal, like the internals and the semester exams, no class test is held. Sometimes syllabus is not completed, but mostly it is done.
Fees and Financial Aid
There is only a tuition fees for non hosteller, which varies depending on stream, practical based subject have 4100 on admission, while other Arts subject have 2360 overall. In some semester the fees is 2360 for science subjects as well depends on the type of subjects and practical. There is scholarship available for low income and good merit students from the college. The fees is same for all quota, SC ST general, Obc A B, and hostel fees is 2100/ 6 months.
Campus Life
There are a few programs held every year. 1. Cultural Festival: lot of competitions are held and people take part in it. 2. Reunion: alumni and current students and the professors meet up 3.Annual Program: prize distribution for cultural program and other events are held. 4.Annual Sports Competition: every year in December. 5.College Fest: two day fest, where one day is inter college competition, and the other day is open to all, and a band comes to perform. 6.Marathon Library is good, but geography books are not that available. Some classrooms and depts have AC, and most do not. There is no student clubs or groups.
Admission
I got chance in a lot of different colleges under CU, State University, and Kalyani University, but chose this one since this is a reputed one with no political influence. I got rejected from Presidency University since I was not able to make the cut-off there, but LBC was my second choice, so I am kind of okay with it. We are admitted through merit list which depends on your 12th marks and marks of your major subject. It is a merit based admission process.
Faculty
The student teacher ratio varies from 12:1 to 50:1, depends on the course, and the department. For Geography dept it is 36, but we have 29 students currently. Faculty is quite easily approachable, and the faculty is mostly good, with a few differences in teaching styles. Geography dept, Economics dept faculty is really good and efficient. The exams are conducted by the university, and most students easily pass with 1&2 supple.
