Course Curriculum Overview

5

The financial aspect of the curriculum influenced me to join the BCOM course. Also I am pursuing CA and CMA as my career so it is helping me shape my career. Although we had more of a theoretical experience at college and not sort of a practical experience. We lacked the practical aspect of the curriculum. The teachers should practice practical aspect of the course and should give students case scenarios where we could apply our brains and theoretical knowledge to solve them. Also they should practice making teams and arranging case competition so that we have a learn with fun college environment. The exams were conducted twice in a year majorly one during January and one during December.

Internships Opportunities

3

Internshala offered internship to us at a stipend of INR 8000 per month. The role offered consisted of a financial role where we need to create content in writing for their website. The outcome was that it shaped our writing skill.

Placement Experience

4.5

On passing 5th semester, the students of Goenka College of Commerce and Business Administration are eligible for campus placement offers. The campus reach out college during our sixth semester to interview us. After passing sixth semester we can proceed with the jobs in case we qualify. All the Big 4s viz EY, Deloitte, PwC and KPMG including with MNCs reach our college for campus placement opportunities. They definitely select students each year. The highest package offered till date is 10 lakhs with a associate profile. The average package is 3 laks. The percentage of students getting placement offer is between 5% to 10 %. My plan after the BCOM course is becoming a successful Chartered Accountant and Cost and Management Accountant.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions

The year wise semester fee is INR 520 including admission fee for each of the six semesters. It is a government college and a very reputed college of Kolkata. The cutoff percentage of the morning section is 90%. The admission fees at the beginning of the course is nearly INR 800. There is no other fee that we need to pay. The Library fee is INR 5. The fee of SC and ST friends is little less. Their feelings amount to INR 400. There are various scholarships available for SC and ST friends.

Campus Life

3.5

The annual festival consisted of a fest for new students and others included cultural programmes and national festivals. Our classroom although had a smart class television but our teachers never used them. They only used black boards and white boards. We do not have any such social group although we have our friends whatsapp group.

Admission

I applied to Shivnath Shastri College apart from this college. I got admission in that college with my name appearing in the first list itself. But I chosed Goenka College of Commerce and Business Administration over it because it was a government college with prestigious name and fame and reputable teachers, not to forget less fee structure. The admission criteria is simple, for morning batch it is 90+% in class 12 exams and for afternoon batches it is 80+% in class 12 exams. I was not rejected by any other colleges..

Faculty

4

The faculty to student ratio is 1:20. The teachers are friendly and very knowledgeable. They can be reached via WhatsApp as they provided us with their contact numbers at the beginning of our course. They would reply us before the end of the day. I liked Subhasree Ma'am the most as she was easily approachable and very knowledgeable. We have six semesters in the three year course. It is easy to pass for those students who pay attention to all the classes and work hard. Although Calcutta University are considered difficult to pass yet I passed them all with 8.5 + CGPA. It was all because of my teachers.

Other Applied Colleges

Delhi University - [DU] | Master of Business Administration [MBA]

The placements are good. Top recruiting companies of our college are Wipro, ITC, PWC, Capital First, Future General and Times of India. Students majorly go for higher education, and around 30% of the students opted for internships. The average salary package offered was 2.5-3 LPA. Job roles were for students from all 3 specialisations like finance, marketing and HR.
