What Students Say?
Likes
- I like the sheer number of clubs open to students to explore and develop in. This includes all kinds of fields of interests and is extremely encouraging.
- The campus is well maintained in terms of greenery and cleanliness and is an eyecandy overall.
Dislikes
- I structural arrangement of the campus is poor and thus requires unnecessary traversal throughout the day for all students.
- The grading system of the college is quite strict, comparing to other colleges. There are distinctions between different courses as well.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum designed introduces subjectual topics which are to connect with topics of higher studies and thus well planned for core. Some faculties plan for questions asked in interviews for placement and teach concepts accordingly. The division of core topics can be well divided throughout the years rather than it being focused on just a couple of years.
Internships Opportunities
There are internships opportunities offered by the college during the starting of a 5th semester of a student life. There are numerous companies which offer internship but the number of internships offered is quiet low.
Placement Experience
After 6th semester, students are able to sit for placements. There are about 1500 jobs offered every year and average package for electrical core is 140000 INR. Highest among all branches reaches 1 crore Or 2 every year. Nearly all students get placed. My plans after b tech is working for a couple of years and masters in areas of electronics and robotics.

Campus Life
My experience here has been really exciting due to my active participation in clubs. I am a part of Heartbeats, a fusion Band of my college, BMR, a club focusing on BAJA SAE INDIA, engineering ATVs. I am also a part of spicmacay.
Hostel Facilities
We have dual sharing room and single sharing rooms divided across 11 different hostels. meal quality is quiet horrible but edible. Registration for hostel and its affordability is quiet stringent. But there is a provision for pure veg eaters among all hostilites.
Admission
I chose NITR after applying to all NITs focusing on NIT suratkal with the branch of electrical in focus. My rank in jee mains was 11169 CRL and in advanced was 25000. I got NIT Rourkela EI in round 1 of JOSAA counselling and got EE in round 2. I waited for upgradation of my choice to NIT K EE according to HS quota and previous trends but missed it by 200 ranks.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio depends on the faculty, thus ranging from anywhere between 20-30 students a class to 500 students. Some faculties are extremely encouraging and patient with their teaching while some are egoistic and consider teaching a tiresome chore. This affects the morale of students studying as well. There are 2 exams per semester - mid semester and end semester. Both are relatively tough to score in due to strict and unapologetic marking. Minimum 20 to 30 percent of students fail in their exams when it comes to core subjects. Some subjects are extremely relavent to the course and some are random.
