Course Curriculum Overview

5

My decision to choose political science honours was mainly because of my interest in this discipline. Apart from this it is also helpful in other competitive exams like UPSC CSE & CDS. The curriculum of the political science honours greatly prepares us for real world applications as in this discipline we study & analyse why thing happen the way they are happening. We study the theory of practical things happening out there in the world . Talking about improvement in curriculum, so some practical aspects can be involved like visiting to important places for research activities. Internal Exams happen before the semester end & final exam is held at the end of the semester.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Internships & placements generally is given to students belonging to commerce field like B.com hons , Economics hons etc. There is societies like Placement cell , Enactus etc. through which one can get internship opportunities. Various companies approach to college through these societies & offer various types of internships & placement opportunities. It ranges from Managerial work to accounting jobs .

Fees and Financial Aid

The yearly fees of Sri guru tegh bahadur khalsa College for political science honours is 24180 Rs. Other than this exam fees is 1300-1400 depending on the number of practical subjects you opt for. Scholarships are provided to students belonging to SC/ST & EWS categories.

Campus Life

4

Talking about the campus life , so it's excellent. You get to interact with very intellectual individuals. There are various societies in the college ranging from Debating society, dance , music, civil services society ( of which I'm the part) , poetry society etc. So there is plethora of opportunities to learn & showcase your inner talent. Annual fest of our college is called Lashkara which happens in February every year. Almost every book required for your course is available in college Library & you get access to journals as well. There are various sports of which you can become part like Football, baseball, tennis, Chess , handball , volleyball etc. All the societies are run by The students only . There is NSS , NCC etc.

Admission

I only applied for the University of Delhi. In the admission process of Delhi University we make preferences for the colleges affiliated to Delhi University. So this college was on my 7th preference. Admission is granted solely on the basis of marks scored in CUET exam. My score was 760 marks out 800 marks. Cut-off of my course & college was 758 . I didn't get my above preference college because of my marks.

Faculty

4.5

Faculty members of the college is very good. Especially in my department professors are very learned. There are 9 professors in my department which has approximately 200 students. My favourite professor is Dr. Jagdish Singh sir , as he's technique of teaching is very interesting. He focuses on discussion rather than just one way teaching. Apart from him I also like Bipin Kumar thakur sir as he tells us about extremely helpful sources to study from. There is one semester end exam which is conducted by the university. Apart from that Our college teachers take one internal test before the end of the semester. Exams are not that difficult as previous year questions tend to repeat. One or two students only fail in exam in each department. My course that is political science honours is very relevant in contemporary times as it can be visualised in the society.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

As a future law student philosophy was one of the options which was good to opt. Secondly, comparatively less people opt it and it can be one of the better choices if you are preparing for upsc and taking it as an optional. Teaching can be made more interactive as the topics are really interesting

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
