Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum for all givernment colleges in India is almost fixed and decided by NMC. Our college adheres to it pretty well. All the teachers finish the course on time and give us appreciable amount of time for self study before our professional exam. Clinical teachers in depts like Surgery and Paediatric prepare us well for general treatment and knowledge gets more refined each year. There is unending scope for learning. Areas for improvement include having more INTERACTIVE clinical based classes that prepare us for handling cases more than just writing answers in place of the strictly followed PPT pattern. The frequence of examination is healthy with a standard question paper that gives us a real time idea of professional exams. Commendable effort by all departments in publishing results on time.

Campus Life

3

We have a Freshers Party called Novato Fiesta in the month of July-Aug typically. We have a college fest DIAMANTE held in December every year which is a 3 day long fest comprising several events and concerts along woth DJ nights and Flashmobs. The college has several clubs like House of Rhythm for dance, Ivogue for fashion, Art Club, etc. Boys play cricket and football and we have a college team for each. Volleyball matches are also organised occasionally.

Admission

In terms of all the colleges available to me on my score, i chose DHGMCH because of 1. Better infrastructure as compared to older gvmt college 2. Proximity to the city Kolkata hence accessibility to airport, station etc 3. Good sex ratio in boys : girls and lesser no of students providing more scope for individual attention

Faculty

3.5

Our college has 100 students in a batch and one faculty per period. One department has about 3-4 associate professors and 2-3 Demonstrators. All our faculties are approchable and well equipped. I really liked the Physiology teacher Dr OONA MANDAL - she made me fall in love with the subject and taught us citing some of her own stories every now and then. I also liked a new SR sir appointed in Microbiology department. His indepth knowledge and easy approach to helping us memorise a tedious subject was inspiring. Dr SUMANTA CHAKRABORTY and DR SOMAK MAJUMDER in Community medicine and Dr Sharekh in FMT prepare great content in classes and help us to learn better. Can not speak much about final year teachers as of now. We also have great teachers who wish ti listen to students problems like our Surgery HOD maam and Shabana maam from Anatomy dept. Our Dean sir is also approachable and available for students. We have 2 sems per year and one prof. Teachers are super strict about semesters.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is completely based on NMC new guidelines. Along with the theory classes where we know the structure and their working in dissection we actually see them on cadaver . Lectures should be more interesting as it's get boring to literally listen the concepts for first time like a story and at the end we forget everything

Course Curriculum Overview:

Medical field is a really good field in my opinion to serve humankind and learn about science of nature and life!the curriculum is a little overpaced and there are 19 subjects which are taught in a timespan of 4.5 years which is a bit hectic! There are 4 professional exams and 9 semesters which have pretty good difficulty and assess our skills and education. We have regular examinations in around 4-5 months each. Only thing id like to change in the curriculum is better assessment of many topics which are taught pretty well but aren't examined much leading us to waste our time in focussing on them.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Well, mbbs is very hard and long term process. You will be bored in 1st year because you cant get real clinical cases. But in Final year, 3rd Prof Part 2, you will get huge pressure. Because there are total 11 subjects, you should study in final year. It is a great burden for all. I'm not satisfied with Nmc curriculum. They are not thinking about students. They are implement their rules in chilled ac room. But they don't know the real scenarios.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is quite planned and great and has a lot of advantages in having a clinical and learning diagnostic approach to various diseases. One area where the curriculum can improve is by having more practical classes rather than theoretical classes. The exams are quite difficult but are quite planned to make you understand the clinician and the passing percentage is 50 percent.
