Course Curriculum Overview

3

The use of Chemical Engineering is quite multifarious and important and that's why I chose the course. All the professors frequently show us real-word applications of their teaching material and they provide a chance to do projects under their purview for students who want to further pursue the course. The curriculum is quite heavy though, and could improve by cutting off unnecessary fluff. The teaching methods are quite good and no improvement is deemed necessary. The exams are quite concentrated towards the middle and end of the semester, which creates a very hectic atmosphere. The exams are quite tough and earning a decent grade takes a lot of effort.

Fees and Financial Aid

I have paid a total of Rs. 6,24,000/- for the first year in college, and will be paying the same for the remaining 3 years in my course. The Tuition fees are Rs. 4,90,000/-, Caution fees are 3,000/- (for the first year only), Registration fees are 53,900/- (for first year only), Development fees are 15,000/-, Lab fees are 3,000/- and other compulsory charges amount to 59,100/- for my particular course. My batchmates have similar fee structure, except the RMIT admittees who pay around Rs. 15,00,000/- Financial Aid is received as part of Merit-Cum-Need and Merit-Only Scholarships, each of which have a compensation based on CGPA. For 6-6.5 we get 15,000/-, 6.5-7.5 we get 25,000/-, for 7.5+ we get 50,000/-.

Campus Life

3.5

BITS Hyderabad organizes many student-held fests, like Fervour, Sanskriti, Atmos, Pearl, Tech-Week, etc. Atmos, Fervour and Sanskriti are held in the months of August and September, while Pearl and Tech-Week are mostly in April. The library catalogue is quite massive and books are quite accessible. The classrooms employ cutting-edge technology, employing both traditional and modern methods of teaching. We have two large fields for sports like Cricket, Football, Frisbee, etc. Basketball and Volleyball grounds are also available. Extra-curricular activities are present in abundance. Almost all social groups, clubs and student portals are quite unique and supportive to new as well as old inductees and provide a satisfactory experience. They improve the student life and add flair to it.

Admission

BITS Hyderabad is quite a prestigious college where students and professors from very diverse backgrounds congregate and contribute to an atmosphere of learning and extra-curricular activities. I didn't apply to any other college as BITS was my one and only choice, as my elder brother had graduated from the same campus. I did get an option to choose other colleges but refrained because of my strong preference for this college. So I technically didn't get rejected from any other college. The admission process is quite smooth. BITS has its own entrance examination - the BITSAT - which enables the students to choose one of the four campuses BITS offers around the country. A 12th board score of 75% is required for eligibility. BITSAT needs a score of atleast 180 out of 390 for minimum eligibility and BITSAT is the only method of admission. The overall admission experience was smooth and the staff and volunteering students were helpful.

Faculty

3

The faculty-to-student ratio is around 30:1. The faculty is quite approachable and responsive to student queries. I personally like Vikram Chetan sir, our professor for Engineering Chemistry because of his unique and humorous teaching style and intuitive educational methods. The best faculties are found in the Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering branches in general. I personally don't like Narasimha Bolloju, the professor for Computer Science because of his general arrogance and needlessly strict grading. The exams are structured into periodic quizzes, end-of-class tests, mid-semester examinations and Comprehensive examinations taken at the end of each semester. The fail rate is quite low. The course curriculum is comprehensive but quite outdated,

Placement Experience:

From 4th sem itself students are eligible for placements. Although students get access to paid internships from their 1st year itself, just they need some effort. But as NIAT is yet new and no batch has passed out yet so we still don't have the exact placement percentage rate. But as we are getting paid internships from 1st year itself so it's very evident that placement would also be good

Placement Experience:

No batch has graduated yet so there's no record of placement data yet. But more than 200 students got internships. Also the unique point of NIAT is students gets internships from their 1st year itself. NIAT has connection in the industry also its unique teaching style, this allows 1st year students to get internships. Although there is no pass out batch yet, still many people got placed in good companies.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My college course curriculum is outdated .As im studying in computer science and engineering,i wpuld love to study about technological aspects and grow as a software engineering but in the course curriculam they teach my about mechanical workshops,There were no practical experience it jsut understanding the concept with theoritical part . i would love lo code but my college wastes entire time by helping with electricals, meachanical basics. i dont think is it really necessary for me understand in all the feilds they think that student should perform in all the fields as im in computer science and engineering student ,They should teach me more about coding and computer ,how it industries works and how these technology enhacning ,the arenot even explore about all these sectos they only teaching me about fundametals of all the subjects which is never useful for my studies . as i am in final year of btech i thought learning and deepdiving into computerscience and engineering subjects is more greater than learning all sector fundamentals,The area they need to improve is removing some of the oudated syllabus from their ciricullum and enhcing with the pratical experience not to teach only theoritical part. they have to teach all the areas with realtime examples. The timings of exams is very good .we do have 2 mid exams and one semester final exams for each sem and the subjects feels meduim level difficulty

Students become eligible for campus placements after their 6th semester. The companies start visiting in 7th and 8th semesters. The companies are not much good and are mostly service based. So the placement statistics are also not much good. The highest placement last year was 10 lpa and the median placement was around 4.1 lpa. The placements were starting from 2.5 lpa. The better option for students is to apply for off-campus placements or start preparing for competitive exams
