What Students Say?
Likes
- The faculty is very good and at par with high quality teachers from colleges like mit, duke, iit , etc .. and they are very friendly with you and treat you very well.
- The campus is a very beautiful and sufficiently big with around 50+ acres with views of the shivalik ranges
Dislikes
- The fees is very high and unjustified as per the average package
- The crowd is not very good as most of them are from very rich families and you can easily feel inferior if you are not from a very well to do family
Course Curriculum Overview
While choosing this university the main reason was the industry relevant curriculum which js mainly focused on computer and relevant mathes and physics. Physics is only for one semester and maths for one year and the rest of the couse is on computer and coding. The curriculum sets you for industry challenges. However I feel there should me more industry relevant activities which will set us up for the industry. Exams are taken as 2 semesters in a year and midsem 2 months before every end sem exam. And the difficulty method is pretty moderate.
Internships Opportunities
UPES has launched Srijan Social Internship as part of school of life. It is 6-8 week long for first year students. You can get paid internships if you are really good with academics in big companies like IBM, Microsoft, etc.
Placement Experience
From the 8th sem onwards students are eligible for campus placements in the college. More than 630 companies come to the college for placement which is a very good thing about the college. Last year over 2000 offers were given to students. Upes also has a consistent record of 100% placements. The highest package is around 60lakhs and the average package is around 10lakhs. For top 10% it is more than 20lakh CTC per annum. Although my plans after getting the degree is masters from abroad but yeah upes has pretty good placements.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
The yearly fees is around 5 lakhs excluding hostel fee and with hostel fee it touches around 7 lakhs. The total tution fee for the program is 21lakhs excluding hostel and yes it increases every year. But you can avail Scholarships too if you have above 80% in boards or above 85%ile in jee mains but that's only for the first year and from the second year you need 8.5 cgpa to continue the scholarship. There is no reservations for sc/st or obc. But on merit tou can avail 10-30% scholarships.
Campus Life
The fests of upes are famous all over India not just dehradun. Last year in the yearly cultural fest which is named as uurja, Darshan Raval was invited. Parmish Verma has also performed at uurja and it is a very diverse fest and is celebrated very holistically among upes students. The technical fest is hackathon which is organised monthly for coding enthusiasts. The sports yearly fest is spandhan. The special thing about spandhan is that teachers also participate in this fest and is very interesting. Almost all books are easily accessibile and available as upes has a very big and vast library. The classroom has very beautiful interior along with all the technologies needed for a technical class. Sports facilities are top notch with wonderful coaches for all major sports. You get opportunities to play in various events and recently one alumni has recieved silver medal in commonwealth games. There are more than 10 clubs foormed by students and DSW including dance , drama, etc
Hostel Facilities
I live in the campus hostel which is very difficult to get in upes. It is a triple sharing with common washroom. The room has 3 beds, 3 study tables, bed rests , mirror and one common room and 3 cupboards. The room service and cleaning facilities are very good The menu is also very good and the food would not let you miss home. The menu changes every 15 days. The hostel is given on first come first serve basis and you need to be very quick as there are very less seats.
Admission
I got admission in vit vellore but I chose this college over it's location and curriculum. Also I didn't like vit vellore because of it's strictness and racism for north Indians. In comparison to colleges like vit, I like my college as it has freedom and good quality education. It has very good sports facilities as well as the hostels are also very good especially the food. I wanted to go to manipal but I couldn't give the exam due to some reason but now I don't have regret as I like my college very much. The admission process is quiet easy and it's like a walk in admission you just need to have 50% in boards or you could give the exam which is called as UPESEAT(University of Petroleum and Energy Studies Entrance Aptitude Test) which is quiet easy and you can easily clear it.
Faculty
Faculty student ratio is 200:1 The facult is very approachable and friendly. Mostly the students have a very good relation with their teachers here. Rashmi Dubey ma'am is very good and friendly and her maths is very good. She has done her mtech from IIT Kharagpur As such there is no faculty here that I didn't like Exams are pretty easy here. Mostly the students easily clear the exam. If you get back in any paper you have to pay 5,000 per subject. The course curriculum is very relevant as per industry needs which we don't usually find in other universities.
