Course Curriculum Overview

4

The Political Science Course has been very close to me personally. It has been very easy for me to understand since I was able to grasp numerous concepts from my school days. The faculty makes it much more easier for me to understand the deep concepts, be it new, or the old ones. They are the best at what they are. The curriculum prepares you to deal with the Political world, which also intersects with sociology, economics, anthropology, history, among many others. The teaching methods are excellent, with the Professors using many creative examples for teaching the students. The frequency and hardness of exam are all ample for the student to prepare for the exams, and the difficulty is very mediocre, if a students studies studiosly.

Internships Opportunities

3

The college has The Placement Cell, which is a society that offers Placement under many brands and companies. These may range from TVS, TATA, HERO, among many other. Their stipends range from somewhat 1 lac per annum to 3-4 lacs per annum.

Placement Experience

3

I have no proper idea for the placement, but the college has a PLACEMENT CELL SOCIETY, which offers oppurtunity to work with different companies and get placed. It may range somewhere from 1.5 lacs to 3-4 lacs.

Fees and Financial Aid

Dyal Singh Evening College, University Of Delhi provides excellent faculty for various courses like Political Science, History, English among others. The college has students from all over India. The fees structure, according to me is very affordable and student-friendly. It started with admission fees of Rs.12,800, then it was Rs.12,240 for the 2nd year, and then for my current year, i.e., 3rd, it is Rs.12840. There are other lab fees, such as Computer lab for those pursuing OMSP Course. Also, the college privides fee concessions and waivers for EWS students, or OBCs. It may round upto 100% return of the fees depending on the annual income of the family of the student concerned.

Campus Life

4

The college holds RAJNIGANDHA, the annual fest, in the March-April period. This is the most anticipated fest of the college, which is open for cultural competition among various colleges at DU or in Delhi. There is a huge collection of books at the library providing you a conducive atmosphere to study and get most of the reading materials. The classes are simple, and as such do not provide many technical aspects. There are computer labs among others which are technology rich. Sports is a celebrated activity at the college with Annual Sports Day held every year in the month of March-April. There are many webinars and seminars held for the benefits of students and their growth. There are many societies in the college, namely AAKRITI- FINE ARTS & PHOTOGRAPHY, JUNOON - THE DRAMATICS SOCIETY, RISHABH - MUSIC SOCIETY, CYCLONE-WESTERN DANCE SOCIETY, and PHULKARI-CLASSICAL DANCE SOCIETY. There are other societies such the PLACEMENT CELL, DIALECTICS - DEBATE SOCIETY, among others.

Admission

I had applied for St. Xavier's College, Kolkata and even got the admission there. I had started attending classes, but due to lack of interest in Sociology, and the course which I was provided, also the language gap made it really difficult for me to continue in the said college. I chose Dyal Singh Evening College because, it offered me my priority subject, Political Science, and it was DU which could provide me exposure and better opportunities. Nope, I had applied only for Dyal Singh, or St. Xavier's Kolkata. The admission is given through CUET exam held at national level. The syllabus for the same is 11th and 12th CBSE NCERT, but depends on the subject you want to apply for. Political Science students had to appear in 2 language paper, among 3 other paper they had in their 12th class.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty for various courses at the college is excellent. The Political Science Department has an excellent faculty and have immense knowledge in their respective fields. Its like they know what they are doing there. The student faculty ratio is very good, since there are 2 sections for honours courses, and many sections, till G, for Programme courses. The faculty is very student friendly and are approachable as when need be. They are very helpful and academic oriented, thinking what's best for the students. There are 2 Semester exams for each year, held between a period of 6 months. There are internal tests, exams, external vivas, tests. The process has many assignments and presentations making it very academic for each student.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
