What Students Say?
Likes
- the food quality is excellent and the mess system is quite effective as well.
- the course structure is well up to date and quite fun.
Dislikes
- the location could have been a bit more central but it's still pretty good
- the rooms are also a bit cramped, until new hostels are constructed it'll continue to be cramped but it's manageable nonetheless.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is clearly more research based focused more on the critical thinking part, innovation and actual lab experience than the pen and paper stuff, which is quite fresh considering the current educational scene. The entire point of the course structure is based on real world applications and IISERK provides a really good alumni collection and scope for further academic pursuits either in or outside India. The course material is entirely dependent on the professor and not something definite so that could become a problem sometimes, other than that there's 2 primary exams per semester alongwith several tests and quizzes. The difficulty level should be manageable if you're well prepared
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunities is quite strong here, naturally as it is a research institute which fundamentally focuses on collaboration. The students usually opt for reading projects under professors of interest be it of our college or even outside and apply for internships in india or abroad.
Placement Experience
There's an entire department dedicated to internships and placements and the information surrounding it. I am not sure about from which semester students become eligible for campus placements, but it must be around after the 3rd year. Of course the whole purpose of IISER is based on research rather than placements, as a result most of the students opt further studies than a job after their completion of MS
Fees and Financial Aid
the per semester fees is around 50-60k, so that makes it 110-120k per year. my roommate of ST cat paid around 17k for the semester. The hostel fees is around 20k but i am not sure as it's included in the semester fees
Campus Life
There are quite a number of fests organised throughout the year, be it Inquivesta or club specific fests. The fests are usually held around December and January. The library has a wide range of collection of books and journals be it in the printed format or online. The facilities inside the classrooms are all top-notch be it, the seating or the projection instruments. The club culture is quite active here as there are more than 15 clubs here, and the sports teams are very good.
Admission
I was always interested in the field of research so that's that, other than that the whole scene of engineering has become oversaturated at this point of time, and engineering colleges not performing as well. To get into any of the IISERs, you will require to pass the IAT exam, or perform very well in either JEE or NEET.
Faculty
The faculties are really quite amiable and more than approachable, well more than engineering colleges i think. The LS1101 instructor, Professor Sumana and PH1101 instructor, professor Golam's pedagogy is absolutely fantastic and quite interesting. There are two primary exams, the midsems and the endsems, and several quizzes and tests which the faculty can conduct either pre-planned or at the spot. The course curriculum is state-of-the art and with par to the foreign courses offered.
