Course Curriculum Overview
I love literature and wanted to know more about it and the curriculum and syllabus is great. There's hint of everything. You have poetry, fiction, non-fiction, American Literature, Indian Writing in English. It's a blend of everything you need to know. The curriculum prepares you for competitive exams and real world issues. You come to a better understanding of society and your mind expands to a better level of understanding. I don't find any flaws in the curriculum. Exams take place twice per year. Besides that internal assessment is there. They're not that difficult, they basically want to know your understanding of the problem and how you analyse the situation.
Internships Opportunities
I never availed any internship program but students are offered to go to Germany and London in the course of their admission in Jamia. But there's a condition that you have to have fluent English, an English speaking course is must.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
The year wise fee is 7675 Rupees. It includes every other charge. The fee structure remains the same for everyone. There are various scholarships offered. And they can all be availed from your student account on My Jamia portal. Hostel fee is total around 30 Thousand yearly, in which you have to pay the rent in advance and the mess fee in two installments.
Campus Life
There's so many libraries and reading halls in Jamia. Zakir Hussain Library is the most popular. It consists of every book you want. There are student unions, book launch events, literary clubs. Everything is great. The legend library remains open till 12 at night and students can study in AC. There is a separate reading hall for girls.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are great. Jk girls hostel is the biggest, it has 700 seats and has lift, washing machine, everything. Meals are good. Not as your home but bearable. Security is tight, rooms are clean. Washrooms are not that clean but bearable. Guests are allowed but you have to pay 200 each night for a guest. You basically have to fill the online hostel form from My Jamia portal. Then take the hardcopy along with the documents that they ask and submit in the provost office. I rented a room in Batla house till my hostel got allotted.
Admission
I applied for DU but didn't make it there. Jamia was still my preference. CUET didn't go that well and I lost with a few points. So there's an entrance test every year. There's 40 MCQ's and two descriptive questions consisting 30 marks each. You crack the entrance and you're in.
Faculty
The faculty is great. We have an interactive and conducive environment. Plus they're always available if you need to discuss things with the. I am in MA English course and we have four subjects each having four units. Those four units are shared by two teachers so you have two units by each teacher which gives you a lot of diversity. I personally love Simi Malhotra, she teaches popular fiction and is very calm and quick. She'll make sure you speak in class. I personally don't like the teacher who teaches American Literature. He's a little slow for our pace. Each semester you have one exam, which consists of internal assessment of 25 marks and 75 external exams. The internal assessment may consist of assignments that you have to submit during the classwork or a presentation, depends on the choice of the teacher. Overall everyone does good in exams. And the curriculum is perfectly framed.
