What Students Say?
Likes
- Low fees - It does not burn a hole in my pocket.
- Eligibility - For someone so deeply interested in the subject of psychology, IGNOU does not require me to have completed a BA in Psych to be able to apply for an MA in Psych.
Dislikes
- Slow to respond - IGNOU takes a lot of time to respond to queries, and you have to constantly keep at it to elicit any response.
- Evaluations - Assignments and exam papers are not evaluated well. There are ways to escalate such matters, but are often very slow and there is no guarantee of receiving your due grades.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum needs to be updated to reflect the current research and trends in the field of Psychology. But it still provides a good base for learning, and taking that learning forward. For someone deeply interested in the subject as myself, it works as a great springboard for future learning.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
Tuition fee is very affordable. Approximately Rs. 10000 per year. This is a major plus point of being a student at IGNOU. By keeping the fee low, its education is accessible to students from all walks of life.
Campus Life
Not applicable for me as I am pursuing an open, distance program at this university. I have not opted to take live in-person classes. I have opted for self-study, in that I receive textbooks, and appear for exams after preparing for them on my own.
Admission
Admission process was fairly smooth. They required a bachelor's degree in any field, with a minimum cut off percentage. I like the fact that IGNOU MA in Psychology program does not need you to have a BA in Psychology. If you are interested in the subject enough, then you can pursue it at IGNOU. Application form of IGNOU is available on their website itself. There are 2 intakes in a year. July and January.
