Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

The curriculum is set and maintained by Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. Therefore, the curriculum is up to the mark. However, on comparison with other universities, it may be found that it is quite outdated and doesn't provide much exposure, and it is even faltering at research exposure. The exams aren't very difficult, but in my opinion, unnecessarily frequent, occurring almost every month. I would suggest the teachers try to teach like they mean it.

Internships Opportunities

0.5

There's no internship opportunities given by the college. There's no stipended roles offered by the university, or facilitated by it. Everything is theory based and within the college. There are very few external exposure opportunities.

Placement Experience

0.5

There's no campus placements by the university. It is said that they do by the higher ups, but there isn't. Students have to find their employment on their own post graduation. I plan on pursuing NET-JRF.

Fees and Financial Aid

I had paid ?13,000 fees per semester for the college as an unreserved student which is inclusive of everything - admission fees, development fees, library fees, etc. Hostel isn't provided by the university. Paid seats are worth ?28,000 for unreserved seats only who didn't meet the minimum merit list criteria for unpaid seats. Financial aid and scholarships can be availed by students from backwards castes.

Campus Life

1

There are very few annual and technical festivals in the university itself, although students may go to BHU main campus for their various activities. There are routine workshops, talks and events organised by the faculty of individual departments which are very informative and insightful. Classrooms are equipped with a projector screen for presentations and such. Sports facilities are truthfully not very good. There are almost no student run clubs.

Hostel Facilities

0.5

There are no hostels provided by the university itself. There are many PGs and hostel rooms nearby to the campus in the locality which one may rent depending on one's financial expenditure, the quality of services - meals, furnishing etc. depends completely on the students' capacity. The area is good enough, there's a lot of shops and there are residential areas nearby.

Admission

Minimum 55% in undergraduate with a B.A. or B.Sc. in psychology is required for general category, 45% for others. Furthermore, applicants must clear CUET exam and are selected from the BHU counselling process. During counselling, marks obtained in CUET and their preference of the affiliated college is taken into consideration while placing them in an affiliated college of BHU. OBC, SC, ST as well as EWS applicants have lesser cut off for acceptance into the colleges. The cutoff is different every year. The process of application and selection through BHU is somewhat confusing. I hope that it may become more personalized and easier.

Faculty

1

The faculty to student ratio is proper. In the psychology department, there's three permanent faculty members and five more rotating assistant teachers, as well as lab assistants. It is well employed. The faculty is well educated in some aspects and not very much in others. It's a hit or miss.

Interview Experience

2

I had to sit the CUET-PG exam conducted once a year by NTA. The test contains 30 general questions and 70 domain specific questions that an applicant must answer within 3 hours. It is in CBT mode. After the results are declared, students must individually apply to universities accepting CUET scores for further counselling and admission. For the exam, questions from bachelor's in the same subject as the post graduation to be sought are asked.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Since I wanted to become an English Professor, the course really helped me a lot in getting an insight into English Literature. The professors are very encouraging. The curriculum not only relies on the traditional method of teaching but also various co curricular activities are conducted to prepare the students for the real world. Each student is given an opportunity to prove herself. As the exams are conducted annually we get a lot of time to prepare accordingly.

There are 4 semester in master and in every semester there is an end semester exam (that is of 70) and mid semester exam (that is of 30 marks) . The exam is mostly moderate .
