Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The aspects that influenced me to choose Biotechnology was the future of this field and it made me intrigued to see how biotechnology as a whole is helping the world to evolve. All these expects I talk about were well wooven into our academics and syllabus which pulled me towards choosing the same. The curriculum and specially the lab works and the inputs given by the professors and the teaching staff helped a lot to understand how these things will be applied in the real world to make a living. Some of the suggestions could be like to make the classes more interesting by giving students more of the lab work and all. The frequency and timing of the exams were well balanced as we had to give sessionals and semester end exams for which we used to get enough time to prepare and to give the exams as well. Overall the academics were great in this college.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

Internships were offered in Majeedia Hospital, Batra hospital and many different A class facilities for a better understanding about the work and how will it be done on the ground level. This added a lot to the CVs.

Placement Experience

4

The placements starts coming in the 6th semester but I was not at all engaged in all of those activities as I was planning to do Masters from Abroad and didn't attend much college in the 6th semester.

Fees and Financial Aid

The tution fees was not increased during the course and around 3-4% hike was scene for the next batch and sometimes was not increased as it depended on the higher authority only. The complete cost of my education was around 3,00,000/-. In this the course fees was 40,000/- and Tution fees was 5,000/- and the some other charges were there but all of them were clearly stated in the prospectus and none of them were hidden fees. Scholarship were provided and were provides up to 50% on the total fees. I have not taken the job after my bachelors as I had a plan to do my Masters.

Campus Life

4

The facilities were quite good in our college as the library was really nice and were issued proper library card without which entry was prohibited and the library had all the books for all the courses being offered in the college. There were different clubs in college such as Health club, Social club, and environment club etc.

Admission

The eligibility of the course is different for different courses as in my course we had a physical counselling in which our marksheet and documents were seen and verified. According to that we were given the admission and as in my case 72% was required to take admission in this course. The application form could be found on Jamia Hamdard's official website and improvement that could be done in the admission process could be to provide a better assistance when the forms are not out or are out.

Faculty

4

The faculty members were highly qualified. As some of the teachers had done there PhD from Abroad and they came to Jamia Hamdard to share those insights and help students like us to grow better. All the teachers were always available for us after the class also we could go there respective rooms and ask for any doubts or suggestions and they were all very welcoming about that. Additionally, they always kept themselves available for us on Whatsapp or so that we can ask for any doubts or the class timings or about the sessionals and practicals. All over we didn't faced a problem with the teachers as they were always very helpful.

Indira Gandhi National Open University - [IGNOU], Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Mathematics)

Placement Experience:

Placements in IGNOU are quite limited compared to regular universities. Since IGNOU is an open and distance learning university, it does not have a strong campus placement system like DU or private colleges. There is a Campus Placement Cell (CPC) that conducts job fairs and recruitment drives at some regional centers, but these are not very frequent and mostly depend on the location. Usually, students who are in their final year or have completed the course can apply, but there is no fixed semester rule since the system is flexible. The companies that visit are not very large in number and vary every year. Some private firms, NGOs, BPOs, insurance companies, and small IT firms have participated in the past. The roles are generally entry-level such as sales, customer support, data entry, insurance advisor, or junior IT support. There are very limited opportunities for core mathematics or research roles through placements. As far as packages are concerned, the average package is usually around ?2.5 LPA to ?4 LPA, but since IGNOU is an open university, it cannot be expected to have the same placement levels as regular colleges with full-time classes. Also, the percentage of students placed is very small because most IGNOU students are either working professionals, homemakers, or people preparing for competitive exams, so placements are not the main focus. Many students use the degree as a qualification while pursuing their own career path outside. I am currently in my 2nd year, so I do not have personal placement experience yet. The data I have mentioned here is based on internet sources and feedback from other IGNOU students. From what I have learned, placements exist but are very limited, and one should not rely only on them for career building.
