What Students Say
Likes
- The college , being the pioneer of all the medical colleges of the North-east India, has a good repute of its own. It's one of the most prestigious college of the region bringing hopes for the people in the field of medical science.
- The second thing that I like about my college is the geographical accessibility. The college is situated in the Dibrugarh district, in the plains of Assam on the banks of the river Brahmaputra.
- As a student I am grateful to have easy access to public transportation services both within the campus and outside at reasonable rates.
Dislikes
- The college lacks a proper cafeteria. The college has a large number of students opting for various degrees other than MBBS such as dentistry, nursing, Pharmaceutical etc., as such a proper cafeteria is needed. The current canteen is not upto proper.
Course Curriculum Overview
The relevance of MBBS in the lives of human beings is inevitable. From the smallest of the illness to the dreadest ones, MBBS can help a particular physician to handle things properly as long as he is well experienced. That's the first thing that came to my mind while opting fo the course . Being a 4 year course+ internship, MBBS isn't a easy course but its application in the real world is beyond explainable. Throughout the year, 3 internal examination are arranged and at the end of the year the final professional exams are held. I personally feel that in today's world where universities are opting for semester wise exams this yearly exams create a bit havoc for the students taking a toll on their health
Fees and Financial Aid
I study in a government medical college, so there is only one time payment for tuition fee at the beginning of the course which is Rs27000. There is no monthly tuition fee. However yearly we are required to pay an amount of Rs4000 for the final professional exams. Moreover there are many hostels with mess fee ranging from Rs2000-3000. There is no scholarship system in the college but the students can apply for various scholarships under the Indian government.
Campus Life
The college week is organised yearly in the month of October having a wide range of activities in the field of Art, Literature, drama, sports etc. Students of every year can participate in both the individual and group events. Moreover, during the whole year various competitions are arranged. Apart from that there are different clubs such as drama and literature.
Hostel Facilities
At first, two students are allotted together in a room. But in the final year, single rooms are provided. The room has a bed, a table and a chair , two cupboards and two Ceiling fans . The food quality is average. The hostel is within the college campus.
Admission
For taking admission, the student must be 12th pass and having a percentage of 75%. The student should qualify in the national NEET examination which happens yearly in the first week of May. The cutoff varies every year. But being one of the top colleges of Assam the cutoff is usually 570+
Faculty
According to me, the faculty to students ratio is a low. There are a lot of elderly faculties but lacks newer and young teachers. This would have been helpful for the students as well. Most of the faculties,as in many other medical colleges, are unable to treat the students properly. On the other hand, there are teachers who willingly help and encourage the students to work hard in every way possible. They even share their whatsapp numbers to share any doubts so that they can help us clear them.
