Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum doesn't focus only on theoretical knowledge but also includes labs and projects that help us get hands-on experience. Labs are well equipped with the latest equipment at all times. Projects help us build our resumes as well.
Internships Opportunities
There are more than 100 companies which come on campus for internships. Stipend can range from 20000 per month to 1.77 lakhs per month depending on the job role as well as the company. Projects can be done as a part of the course itself or professors can be contacted individually and projects can be done under them. Technical clubs offer projects every year.
Placement Experience
Students are eligible for on campus placements from 7th semester. Average package for ECE is usually 21 LPA and highest can go upto 40 LPA. Students are eligible for on campus internship from 5th semester. Interns can be paid upto 1.77 lakhs per month. I am planning to work for a few years after completing my degree and then go for masters abroad.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tution fee is Rs. 62500 per semester which is very less compared to private engineering colleges. Not only the course, but working under technical and non technical clubs helps us gain experience and also teaches real life values like team management, work-life balance etc., Various scholarships are provided throughout the course.
Campus Life
There are 2 fests a year , cultural fest in March known as Incident and a technical fest in October as Engineer. There are various technical and non technical clubs which encourages all kinds of interests among students. Currently I am joint secretary at Institution of Engineers,NITK which is one of the 5 exclusive technical clubs on campus. I am also a part of the Quizzing Society, a web developer at TEDxNITKSurathkal, a marketing executive at Incident,NITK and a member of the NITK Chess Team.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are good. The rooms are big and spacious. But there are frequent water and power issues during the summer. The mess quality is bad but the vegetarian mess is better than the non vegetarian mess. There are many canteens and cafes in campus which are cheap and good.
Admission
Only students who have scored above 99 percentile in JEE Mains are eligible for BTech in ECE at NITK under the general category. Reservation benefits for other categories are available. Applications aren't there, admission is done through JOSAA counselling.
Faculty
Faculties at NITK are the best of the country. Every professor is an IIT graduate and many have international experience as well. Most faculties are very helpful and as the intake of NITK is less, it is easy to communicate with professors.
