Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is very flexible. In first year everyone has almost similar courses like Calculus, CS, Physics Chem Lab etc. After that students get lots of flexibility in choosing their courses and a Minor. The thing that makes IITB the IITB is that it has curriculum with really practical use in the real life. The curriculum and courses change and improve again and again. We get to learn really important topics like Economics, Management, Design etc. IITB follows cgpa type of grading system and evaluation happens frequently. Like for some courses weightage distribution is 20-30% small 3-4 quizzes in between. 30% Mid Semester exam and rest is covered by End semester exam and sometimes even attendance and class participation too. Few courses or instructor I'll rather say make the course really difficult on purpose so it is hard to define what grade you really get even after the exams. Relative grading happens a lot.

Internships Opportunities

4

Internship opportunities are provided by Internship cell in 2nd and 3rd year. It is similar to the placement process. Also we can get externally Internship through Alumni or Club network. IIT Bombay also has Entrepreneurship cell which also connects us with companies to help us land an Intern.

Placement Experience

5

The final year students who have completed 7 semesters or 9 (for dual degree)get opportunity to sit for placements. Placement season happens in winter break after 7th semester. Almost all Companies visit the college some major being Apple, Boeing, Airbus, Google, IBM, L&T, ISRO, Microsoft etc. Highest package being above 1 Crores and average being around 30 Lakhs. According to reports 35% students were not placed but in reality many of the students don't sit for placements or got pre placement offer. My plan after degree is to become an Entrepreneur and to open my own firm

Fees and Financial Aid

Fee structure is pretty reasonable. Tuition fee is 1 lakh per semester and rest 20-25k covers up for amenities and other resources provided. It might seem a lot but inside campus there are various ways provided to cover your money. For example there is TA (Teaching Assistant) system where you get stipend from institute for helping your juniors in course. Complete cost of education for a semester is around 130k and if you're in SC ST category no tuition fee so around 30-35k. Various scholarships are awarded by institute itself but also by alumni too. There is also Financial Aid Program by alumni where you take a loan by Alumni which you have to return after graduation and placements.

Campus Life

5

Best thing about IIT Bombay is it's culture. It is literally Chhichore life well chhichhore was based on and shot in IIT Bombay. It's Cultural festival Mood Indigo is Asia's biggest College fest. Last year it featured various celebrities like Pink Sweats, Mohit Chauhan, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Salim Sulemaan etc. We also have Techfest and ESummit ( entrepreneurship). All these fests and management is managed by students only. There are also General Secretary to administrate Academic, Cultural, Sports Tech and Hostel affairs within campus elected by official elections. They handle their respective affairs, are parent to the clubs they hold. There are more than 50 clubs in institute each having their own Managers and Convenors. They hold their own projects, fests, sessions too. In all manners IIT Bombay is best for their fests, clubs and students

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel rooms are good in First year Hostel and final year Hostels. In 2nd 3rd year the Hostel you get is called Parent Hostel which is okayish. But each hostel has their own mess, Night Canteen, Cold water dispenser, washing machine, room has fan, bed, cupboard, table and chair provided by institute. You have one roommate till 3rd yr. In final yr we get single occupancy room. Hostel is mandatory in 1st year and allocated randomly we cannot choose our own Hostel and roommate. In Hostel we have to pay only Mess advance which is around 23k per semester. And money gets reduced for the time we stay at hostel we also get almost 2-3 k return after the semester ends. Locality of these hostels are quite okay. They are 1-1.5 Km away from Academic area. But almost everyone uses cycle also rikshaw and institute run eShuttle is available. Hostel is near the Student activity centre (SAC) and also Gymkhana ground. We also have free Gym and sports facilities which are really one of the best.

Admission

The admission process is really smooth. It is done Online via JOSAA rounds. After that just a formal admission and registration is done. It is done on the JEE Advanced scores and rank. Whose past year data is available on JOSAA site. The acceptance and rank opening closing is almost same as of past year. Reservation benefits are also there for EWS, OBC, SC, ST and PwDs. There are also relaxation and seats for Females. The JEE Advanced happens every year for those who have qualified JEE Mains. It is one of the toughest exams in the country and it's duration is 6 hours. I think admission process is good and happens smoothly.

Faculty

4.5

Faculty to student ratio is really variable to the course. Like for example in some department courses it was 1:90 but for a common courses like Maths or CS it was 1:300 as 1 prof was taking full division even 1:600 as he does two shifts. But that really doesn't matter as there is a system of seniors who've excelled the course they are officially appointed as Teaching Assistants (TA). They convey the msg queries of students really easily to the professors. Some professors are really friendly. Like one of my friends professor took him to lunch 2 times over discussion. They live in campus only, after the academic time they are seen enjoying with family or just jogging. And they say HI to us have a conversation if they know us. Really it is healthy environment.
