What Students Say
Likes
- I liked that we did not have to pay anything over and above the total fees- all expenses were taken care of within the fees. Like mess, hostel, books, library, housekeeping, health insurance etc. There were extra paid services like laundry and co-op
- The faculty is indeed very supportive and it was easy approaching any one in the event of a doubt clarification. We could request for extra extra support, sometimes even go and attend classes that we weren't even part of and still it would be welcome
- The student-driven environment. The beautiful campus was run by students in many aspects and there were numerous events that would make it difficult for anyone to sit idle. The life in campus was happening, buzzing with activity but it was peaceful.
Dislikes
- They can improve upon adding laundry as a service for students included in the hostel fees or bring in a washing machine that can add to the convenience of washing clothes. The paid services are good enough for occasions but that should be just an op
- They can improve on the variety of food offered to the students at the mess. The existing menu is good but it needs more equally good options that taste well, preferably regional options. The variety can be looked into, the comfort food is done well
- They can hire more faculties full time. Few courses rely on guest faculty. That is a welcome move but the consistency of course delivery and the overall ratings become dicey when the same faculty is not continued with in the new academic year.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course to have a stepping stone in the corporate world. This course takes you through the fundamentals of management and prepares one from the scratch. Prior knowledge or diverse background just acts as a cherry on the cake enriching one's learning experience. Right from Marketing Management 1 to Accountancy and Legal Aspects it is a cohesive curriculum making everyone's base strong. There is a frequently used method of case study that helps one understand what made businesses big, and how established giants saw the ruin in the light of the day. The areas of improvement can of course be diving deep into the examples from current affairs and understanding any implications. It helps to ensure one is also trained to think more. The exams usually took a week to 10 days. Some papers had study leaves and some were scheduled in the same day as other course. This would depend on one's electives choice. Difficulty level was always moderate to high but nothing one is not prepared for
Internships Opportunities
The institute follows a policy of one placement opportunity per student. The companies that offer internship are Dabur, Reliance Retail, CRISIL, Arcesium, Jio Creative Labs, Silicon Labs, Morgan Stanley, Hackett Group, Nippon India, Fujitsu, Policy Bazaar etc. The average stipend ranged from 10k to 15k. The roles were in Finance, Human Resources, Sales and Marketing.
Placement Experience
After completion of first year and Summer Internship, placement season begins in September. Some students opt for taking up Pre-Placement Offer from their Sip organization. There are various companies that regularly visit the campus like CRISIL, Arcesium, Wipro, Infosys, HCL. Then there are others that frequently visit like EY, KPMG, Dabur, Blue Star, Pernod Ricard, Shaadi.com, Reliance, Capgemini, Cognizant. A total of 220+ offers have been made so far and the placement season is still in full swing. Highest package is at 36 lacs, whereas the average is around 8-9 lacs. Around 75% of students are already placed and the others are appearing for the interview process. The placement season is still ongoing. My personal plan is to take the Final Placement offer that I have received from the Institute and then contribute to the best of my ability to the organisation. I want to thrive in the field of Sales and Marketing before and right now i have the perfect opportunity in my hands.
Fees and Financial Aid
After my joining, the overall fees has increased by approximately 10-15% and the same is being followed for the current two batches. Usually a hike can last for about 2-3 batches. The complete fee for me was ?12,12,000 for 2 years. This includes ?18,000 as refundable deposit. All females students received 5% scholarship on tuition fee each quarter. There was additonal scholarship for students with exceptional academic performance in CAT/Xat that brought their overall fees to ?8-9lacs. Additional scholarship was awarded to top performers on the basis of merit after a year of performance evaluation. There was special Merit-cum- Means scholarship for meritorious students who had monthly family income less than a certain specified limit. I have got summer internship placement from the college at a startup as an Hr intern with monthly stipend ?10000 For Final Placement i got placement at a leading global company as a Management Trainee in Sales and Marketing with packagebetween 9-11 LPA.
Campus Life
There are various activities and events held throughout the year and it adds to the lively atmosphere of the campus and acts as a fuel after the intense schedule of classes. The annual fest for IMT Nagpur is Milestone-35 and it has DJ, Stand-up comedy and inter college competitions. There is an alumni reunion meet that has various sports, DJ and cultural performances. They are held during October and December. Apart from this all major festivals are celebrated at the institute at a large scale. There is a special fresher's night and an entire Farewell week which are the most sought after events to name a few. There are various inter and intra sports tournament organized at the campus for football, badminton, cricket, lawn tennis etc. There are almost 36 clubs, Committees and academic forums that are entirely student managed to add to a student's profile. To name a few- CSR Committee, PR and Branding Team that manages Corporate Communication, Mess Committee, Sports Committee, Cultural
Hostel Facilities
Hostel fee is included in the overall fees. A student gets a double shared room and can upgrade to a single room by paying extra ?5000 per year. In a room, there is one window, one bed, one study table, one bedside table, 2 charging points, one cupboard with mirror, one storage space and one fan that is made available for each student. Food is available at the mess for 4 times daily- Breakfast, Lunch, Hitea and Dinner. The Breakfast menu is exceptionally good with quite a few crowd favourite items like aloo ka paratha with garlic chutney, idli vada dosa uttapam, sambhar, poha sandwiches etc. Lunch and dinner have salad, dal, rice with sabzi like paneer, methi matar malai. Popular items on weekends are rajma, kadhi chawal, biryani, chole bhature. Hi tea is usually a mini meal like paw bhaji, pani puri, samosa, pasta, noodles, bhajiye etc. There is no separate registration for hostel and it is hassle free joining.
Admission
Eligibility for this course is an undergraduate degree. Additionally one has to appear for an entrance exam like Cat, Xat or Cmat. For cat and xat a safe percentile is above 80 to get an interview call. For cmat one can target above 95 percentile. The application form is available online and one can apply either for all campuses of IMT through common application form or just IMT Nagpur. The form fee is around ?1000 to ?2000. The form is opened before cat exam and generally also re-opened before or after cat / xat results. One can expect form to reopen before CMAT exam as well. The admission process was smooth as it was online when i appeared for it. There was an essay test, a Statement of purpose and a personal interview with 2 panelists. The difficulty level can be increased for the interview. Otherwise they also conduct offline interviews now in various cities so there should not be a problem. One can also choose to visit the campus before taking admission and check first hand
Faculty
In a given classroom, there is generally a ratio followed of 1 faculty and 60 students. This is subjective According to the course and elective. A given elective cannot have less than 15 students enrolled. A few courses that have simulation, lab or an immersive experience that requires special instructions by the course instructor does have small group of students according to the requirements. A few of the faculty members are immensely supportive and approachable and almost all of them either carry extensive corporate experience or high qualification. To the best of my knowledge most of the professors have Phd. Their approach to teaching is generally through lecture mode and using powerpoint for aid. There is often vidoes and activities conducted to improve the learning experience. It is very easy to get doubts cleared instantly and if not one can go and meet the faculty through an appointment and get the concepts taught to them with special attention. More full time faculty is needed
Interview Experience
I had a written test on writing an essay. The personal interview lasted 20 minutes. It asked about my short term and long term goals. There were questions on strength and weakness. Then thete questions on my interests, hobbies, desired field of specialisation. They asked me extensive questions from my resume, details of my achievements, questions on my favourite subject, a few current affairs questions. It felt more like an assessment of my behaviour and rationale that i provided for each question. I prepared for this interview by writing answers for all possible questions and reading relevant news and trends. One can access material online for common interview questions and then prepare accordingly by keeping their personal profile in mind. It is a good decision to be fully prepared to field any questions from the things written in one's resume as that is where the most questions come from. The panelists are generally not intimidating so one can ensure to maintain their composure.
