Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum set by the college is better than most of the colleges that I heard of. They give hands-on experience with complex mechanical machines while also providing top-notch theory knowledge in multiple fields. These experiences really help the students to be prepared to work in any given background as we get base knowledge of different branches. The exams are difficult than a lot of other colleges, requiring a student to work hard. But one can score really well in any given exam if he/she is able to concentrate during the lecture hours.
Internships Opportunities
Internships from companies like Microsoft, Amazon and Oracle are offered to eligible students. The companies usually set a cut-off CGPA, that could be ranging from 6 to 8.5 depending on the company. These companies provide really good stipend for the students that are selected, anywhere from ?5,000 to ?40,000 per month depending on their job title and company they are enrolled in.
Placement Experience
A student in 5th semester and over with minimum GPA is eligible for campus placements. Companies like Microsoft recruit students providing outstanding offers to the students. While some students do not participate in the placements as they are preparing for their higher studies, the students who do participate are most likely to be placed with an offer of 15 LPA on average. Internships are also provided with good stipend.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees one has to pay depends on the course he/she is enrolled in. If the course is related to Computer Science / Electronics / Electrical, their fees sums upto 18.6 lakhs for full course. But a student can avail for scholarship in the form of fee waiver of 20% or 100% if their score in MET is below 5000 (<100 for 100% scholarship) and they maintain a good CGPA. If a student is able to maintain a good CGPA without having a rank less than 5000 can also avail for 20% scholarship in their higher semesters. There is another exam conducted for students living close to Manipal, and their fee structure is different while also costing them significantly less (around 4 lakhs for full course). The return of investment is quite good as a student from above mentioned courses can get placed for average of 20 LPA.
Campus Life
The campus life here is very decent, people can make good friends who respect their differences and opinions as students come from every corner of the country. Fests like Revels, TechTatva, Utsav etc. gives everyone a chance to make new friends, find new hobbies etc. The clubs and student projects focus on improving a student's skillset, even if it is not technical. The library has thousands of books that can improve ones knowledge set and help them. The library also provides group study halls which are helpful to mingle with your friends while working on a project. Multiple gymnasiums, recreational centres, grounds for all kinds of sports are provided by the college and most of them are free to access.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels provided by this college are one of the best hostels in the country. There are almost all types of rooms available for a student, ranging from a dormitory to a fully air conditioned single room. These rooms are quite affordable compared to other colleges and provide cleaning serving thrice a week while the laundry service is available almost everyday. Students can opt for different food courts and messes to suit their preference. All places provide an amazing quality food.
Admission
I had to give Manipal Entrance Test (MET), for which the application forms and details are available on the webiste. One can also join the college through NRI quota if he/she has a sponsor abroad, this will allow them to skip the exam. I scored nearly 110 marks in my first attempt. My second attempt did not go as well and I ended up scoring less this time. The exam is relatively difficult compared to other exams like VITEEE and EAMCET. For my score, I got rank close to 5000. During the counselling, I first got Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) for my rank in the first round. As I proceeded towards second round, I got Data Science & Engineering (DSE). I got no luck in the third round so my course stayed the same. The orientation and admission were very simple and smooth, just requiring us to submit a few documents.
Other Applied Colleges
SRM Institute of Science and Technology - [SRMIST] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
I did not like the hostels and the daily expenses that would come with it are more since the college is situated in a metropolitian city.
Vellore Institute of Technology - [VIT University] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
The fees was very expensive for my rank and the hostels were not as great.
