Course Curriculum Overview
Curriculum is typically the same as any NIT or IIT, with minor alterations. The curriculum is well defined and helps in our all round development for the future. In the first year, we don't have branch specific courses. We study basic sciences, mathematics, computer programming and two humanities courses. From the 2nd year onwards, you study respective branch courses. Continuous assessment is held for monitoring progress, with two mid term exams, two class tests and an end sem exam.
Placement Experience
Most students typically receive an internship offer in their 7th semester. Some of them are offered PPO based on performance. Placements and average package is quite less compared to other NITs. The average package is about 6LPA. Placement percentage is about 50%, even for top branches like CSE.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fee for BTech is about 2 Lakh per year. All government scholarships are available, and assistance is also provided to ease the application process. Many private scholarships like that by Reliance Foundation is also available. Campus placement is pretty average here, compared to other NITs. Students typically go for off-campus placements or remain unemployed. Average package is about 6 LPA.
Campus Life
Infrastructure here is poor, considering the fact that this is a temporary campus, although a new campus is under construction in Sumari village. Students have to improvise when it comes to essential infrastructure like playgrounds, courts, etc. The auditorium is shabby and is also being used as an indoor stadium. The sports faculty is good though, and you get opportunities to participate in all India events like Inter-NITs. There are clubs, like Technical Club, Literary Club, and they take up activities from time to time, but the club culture isn't as good as other NITs. Less availability of space infra and funds could be a reason. The library has most of the books an engineering undergraduate may require during his course of study.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel and Mess fee makes about 32k rupees per year. Mess food is really bad here, with little variety in food over a week. For some reason they serve Rajma every other day. Quality is food is average. Hostels are well maintained, although there is scope for improvement. Several new hostels are also constructed to ease the living. Some students also opt for a room/PG in the nearby areas of Srinagar Garhwal.
Admission
There are two modes of seat allotment in NIT Uttarakhand - through JOSAA and CSAB. I got a seat through CSAB Round 2. The process was smooth and hassle free. I was selected for a Bachelor of Technology program in Civil Engineering. For being eligible for any NITs, you need to appear for the JEE Mains Exam, which is generally conducted twice a year. The application form is released by the National Testing Agency in December. Also, you have to score atleast 75% in 12th Board Exams. I scored a percentile of 94.04 in the said exam. No, I did not avail any reservation benefits. I think the admission process is pretty smooth and tamper proof, with little scope for improvement.
Other Applied Colleges
Jawaharlal Nehru University - [JNU] | Bachelor of Arts [BA] {Hons.} (French)
Scope of placement is lesser
