Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course is partially up to date to meet the industry standards and the syllabus is being currently worked upon to ensure that it meets the industry standards. But the bad part is the course puts much pressure as compared to other branches of this institute so everyone has to work hard to meet their academic career goals and to increase their overall skills. The teacher here focuses mainly on finishing the syllabus before the exam and not the overall development of the child. Research is highly encouraged in this college and professors are helpful in that. Course is not up to date for placements so students need to study on their own for placements. Every Semester we have one midsem and one endsem exam but there are a lot of class tests that overall contribute to the preparation of the student for the exams.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

Various Research Internships as well as Industry Internship opportunities are offered to the students at the end of their 6th Semester and begin from the 5th Semester. Barclays and Hotstar offer a 1LPM stipend. Various other companies like Microsoft, PhonePE, Fractal, American Express, Oracle, Mathworks,BNY Mellon, Wells Fargo, etc visit and offer internship oppurtunity to the students.

Placement Experience

4

OnCampus Placement of students is carried out by the Career Development Center of NIT Rourkela. Placements depend on the industry needs and most students are placed in software-based or Analytics and Consultancy Companies. There are a few good opportunities for students applying to Core Companies but they need a good CGPA and sometimes a GATE score to get placed in PSUs.According to last year's placement record, 8 students were offered 52.08 LPA by Amazon Web Service and this was the highest package. The average package is 11.5 LPA for the college and 24 LPA for CSE Department Students. 98% of placement records are in CSE Department

Fees and Financial Aid

Tuition fee remains the same and a lot of scholarships are there to take care of the needs of the students regarding the tuition fees and but fees like mess, environment, and hostel fees increase and that depends on the external factors and there are no scholarships for that but for local people, they can live in their home which neglects their hostel and mess fees. The complete cost for my 4-year course with all expenditures may cross 10 lacs.

Campus Life

4.5

The campus life is great. There are a total of 4 fests in an academic year. Technical, Cultural, Multiethnic, and sports fest. Innovision, Nitrutsav, Cosmopolitan, and, Vriddhi respectively are the names of the fest. The college has a central library and the books and journals that are mostly required are available. The classrooms are mostly digital and coolers are also present. There are many sports and extracurricular activities. Football, Cricket, volleyball, KHO-KHO, and Tennis grounds are present on the campus for the overall development of the students. Many clubs run in the student activity center based on tech, culture, film, art, socio, etc., and have a good impact on student life. Pantomime and Synergy are the clubs for drama and dance.

Hostel Facilities

4

There are a total of 11 Hall of Residence on the campus for the students out of which 3 are for girls, 7 are for boys and 1 is for married Ph.D. students. In the two boys' hostels, single accommodation is available, and for the rest boys' hostels double accommodation. Rooms are quite spacious, For girls it is either 2 or 4 students who can live in a single room depending on the room size. Mess menu is almost common for all the halls of residence with a slight variation. Hostel fees and Room fees are 15000 per semester and 5000 caution money for 2 semesters. The mess Fee is 4192 per month and the quality of food is maintained as per the Chief Warden's Office. Overall Hostel and Mess food are good for students.

Admission

Entrance exam for admission in NITs is through JEE MAINS conducted by NTA. Some documents are required such as Aadhar, 12th mark sheet. Eligilibility for the examination is getting 75% in 12th class . The minimum cutoff depends on reservation of seats . The grading is done on basis of percentile method. The cutoff varies depending on reservation. The exam will be conducted twice a year and a student can write a maximum of 3 years. There will be 2 shifts on a day for 3 hours and exam will be done for 4 days. The timings are 9-12PM and 3-6PM. The exam is based on 11th and 12th standard syllabus. After the result one can select the desired college and desired course . There are 6 online rounds for the allocation of thr course and college. After the online round a physical verification round happens and that is the actual admission to the college . Everything was conducted smoothly.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I mainly chose this course because the college is Autonomous, which allows them to update the syllabus faster than standard university colleges; seeing subjects like Python and Data Science in the early semesters really influenced my decision. The curriculum is decent for getting placed in service-based companies like TCS or Wipro since they focus heavily on the basics and aptitude, though for high-end product roles or research, you have to put in extra effort yourself. I definitely think they need to reduce the theory load and focus more on practical coding because sometimes it feels like we are just writing assignments instead of building things. Also, the junior faculty rely too much on reading from slides, which really needs to change to make classes more engaging. As for exams, it feels like we are always writing them since we have two internals and one end-semester exam per term. They are moderately difficult and the checking is strict, so you can't slack off, but the tight schedule can get quite exhausting.

Students are eligible for placement from their 3rd year onwards. It has been only 2-3 months but I have seen several companies arriving at the college, prominent ones being Flipkar,Deloitte, Xerox, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Microsoft, Dell and several others including startups. There is no accurate data on how many offers have been made this year, but there are rumours that more than 95% of the eligible students have got placements. After getting a degree my plans are if I dont land into a satisfying job then I will start my preparation of the military or start a new business.
