- It's lush green campus of 645 acres which includes sports facilities of all kinds.
- Here, anti-ragging is a real policy. Even if someone found to be involved in ragging then he/she will get a semester back or 3 gradebacks depending upon the degree of damage.
- If you are pure vegetarian then there is a separate mess for you which can be replace with your original mess.
Dislikes
- The weather of Rourkela is pretty extreme so health should be maintained all the time.
- Rourkela doesn't have its own airport which affects the incoming opportunities for placement season.
- The work pressure is pretty toxic here , you would have to work a lot harder to meet the standards.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is partially up to date to meet the industry standards and the syllabus is being currently worked upon to ensure that it meets the industry standards. There isn't much pressure as compared to other branches of this institute so everyone gets ample amount of time to increase their overall skills.
Internships Opportunities
Many clubs give internship opportunities to the students. There is also an incubator to nurture startups. In nit Rourkela, 2 hackathons are organised every year by students which give chances to make connections for getting referrals.
Placement Experience
As Nit Rourkela is an institute of national importance, placements are generally above average here. For the financial year 2023-24, the highest placement was 52.4lpa. Here. many students opt to go for higher studies instead of getting placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
For the first semester, it would take approx RS.124000 which would include admission fees, one-time fees, etc. Then for the following semesters, it would take Rs. 99000 per semester and for the last semester, it would take Rs. 102000 approx. Note that this fee includes hostel facilities, mess facilities, and medical fees. Taking a hostel is compulsory here. If your household income is less than 5lpa then you will get a 33.33%(1/3) discount on the tuition fee (which is included in the above amounts) and if your household income is less than 1lpa or if you belong to the category of sc/st/ph then you will get a 100% discount on tuition fees.
Campus Life
There are usually 4 fests that are held within a year and they are : 1. INNOVISION: The tech fest of nit Rourkela is usually held in October. 2. VRIDDHI: Sports fest of nit rourkela usually held in October. 3. COSMO: Cultural fest of nit rourkela usually held in January. 4. NITRUTSAV: Cultural fest of nit rourkela usually held in February.
Hostel Facilities
In nit Rourkela, it is mandatory to get a hostel room on campus. Here, you will get a double sharing room. For first-year students its vs the hall of residence for boys and the kms/bf hall of residence for girls. The mess menu is this hostel gets changed regularly and it is pretty good if you compare this with other government colleges. You can register for the hostel on the day of offline reporting at the institute itself. The mess and hostel fees are included in the total fees per semester.
Admission
The admission was done through JOSAA counseling. I got around 41K rank to secure a place in the first round for this course with the home-state quota. In the counseling process, we got around a week to fill out our choices for degrees in different colleges. Then 2 mock rounds happened to know the chances of us getting the desired branch in the college. Then the main counseling happened. The cutoff for this branch was around 50k crl rank.
