What Students Say

Likes

Regular Fests and Celebrations are great about the campus life.
High number of Companies visit the college and more than 1500+ Offers were made last year. Placements are good.
The infrastructure is standard. Overall Good.

Dislikes

The faculty are lazy and not interested to teach. The teaching methodology is boring.
The rules are bit strict for first year. Most won't listen to your request. The faculty have a bad attitude problem.
Same age old course being followed. I think more opportunities should be given to students in other branches to pursue career in tech.

Course Curriculum Overview

Got Btech in Ceramic Engineering as per the choice filling and Rank obtained in JEE Mains. The faculty:student ratio is 1:23. The faculty are highly educated and done PHD and Research from reputed institutions. The term exams were of moderate difficulty.

Class Size: 125Course Fees: INR 198000 per year

Internships Opportunities

The internship opportunities are available from 6th semester. Companies like Microsoft, Barclays, Tata, Vedanta, etc. The stipend varies as per company. Tata gives around 1 Lakh per Month for internship.

Placement Experience

Students become eligible for internships from 2nd year onwards. Campus placements occur in 4th year. Companies visiting include Top Tech companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Samsung, Qualcom, etc. Highest package was 86 LPA from CSE branch and Average package overall 12-13 LPA. More than 90% students get placed.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees hike happens in few years. The cost to study is around 4-5 lakhs for tution fees. Haven't got any other scholarship but there is tution fee waiver scheme which relaxes the tuition fees. There are many other scholarships students can apply for.

Campus Life

There are a lot of fests happening every few months. The largest tech fest being Innovision and other cultural fests include Cosmopolitan and NITRUTSAV. The Sports Fest is VRIDDHI. Books are available in the central library. There are sports equipments and grounds available. Many clubs are present for participation for all types of field. Tech Clubs for Coding, Cultural Clubs, Art, Dance, Music, Gym, etc.

Hostel Facilities

Hostels are average. Not so spacious but neither conjusted too. There are a lot of hostels. So size of rooms and meals varies from hostel to hostel. As First years we have been given a separate hostel, VS Hall of Residence. From 2nd Year Onwards we can apply for different hostels.

Hostel Fee: INR 20000 per year

Admission

Eligibility of the course: Admission through JEE Mains Rank. Applied through JOSSA counselling. Got admission into Ceramic Engineering Branch though OBC rank of JEE Mains. Got Ceramic branch in CSAB rounds

Honest Opinion in the college

Placement Experience:

There are internship opportunities at the starting of 3rd year and job opportunities at the starting or 4th year. This year many companies visited the campus which include DE Shaw, Flipkart, Oracle, TCS, VISA(for summer internship drive), and various start-ups like Sarvam AI and many more. Highest package was 56.8LPA by DE Shaw. Flipkart took a total of 20 candidates (12 were selected for 34.5LPA and 8 for internship opportunities). Average package going around 9LPA. TCS mass recruited candidates for around 4 LPA, and ORACLE has been consistent at taking candidates for 24 to 25 LPA. Percentage of Students placed for CSE branch is 90. Many students opt for M Tech courses via GATE exam after getting their degree.

Value For money college

Course Curriculum Overview:

I mainly chose this course because the college is Autonomous, which allows them to update the syllabus faster than standard university colleges; seeing subjects like Python and Data Science in the early semesters really influenced my decision. The curriculum is decent for getting placed in service-based companies like TCS or Wipro since they focus heavily on the basics and aptitude, though for high-end product roles or research, you have to put in extra effort yourself. I definitely think they need to reduce the theory load and focus more on practical coding because sometimes it feels like we are just writing assignments instead of building things. Also, the junior faculty rely too much on reading from slides, which really needs to change to make classes more engaging. As for exams, it feels like we are always writing them since we have two internals and one end-semester exam per term. They are moderately difficult and the checking is strict, so you can't slack off, but the tight schedule can get quite exhausting.

Overall the college and the campus is very good but the exam pattern is worse so it should be improved

The course and curriculum is nice as they are interelated to each other and encourage us to study more and makes us more curious to learn new things but we have some minor course which I don't think it is required for the course and we only have some credits for that course not even exam is being conducted

Placement Experience:

From 6th sem of completion eligible to sit in placement called by campus placement in university. Companies like accenture, techmahindra,tech bee,and wipro comes for hiring. Highest package till now is 29 lpa and lowest is 1.5 lpa. Average package is 5lpa. Mostly 80 percentage of students getting placement from campus drive. My plan after getting degree is getting job from campus drive.

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible for placement from their 3rd year onwards. It has been only 2-3 months but I have seen several companies arriving at the college, prominent ones being Flipkar,Deloitte, Xerox, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Microsoft, Dell and several others including startups. There is no accurate data on how many offers have been made this year, but there are rumours that more than 95% of the eligible students have got placements. After getting a degree my plans are if I dont land into a satisfying job then I will start my preparation of the military or start a new business.

NIT ROURKELA THE ACTUAL REVIEW

I had a choice for chemical engineering in NIT Calicut,kerala my home state but i was not interested in chemistry so I dropped that choice and preferred electrical engineering in NIT Rourkela because choosing this would be more related to core and computer field which also was the one I was interested in.
