Remarks

Admission process is quite streamlined with a separate exam being conducted for the entry into the institute. The NEST exam is held every year through out the country at various locations and merit list is prepared according to your performance in top 3 subjects out of the 4 science subjects(Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics) that the exam is conducted in. the application fees is around 1200INR and it is lower for female and SC/ST category candidates. futher details can be found at www.nestexam.in

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I chose the Chemical sciences due the vast applications it has across all disciplines and day to day life and also due to the good research facilities in our department that allow for impactfull research. The faculty in our department are very well established in their fields and are quite successful researchers. they are friendly and approachable if you have doubts and issues that need clarification. the faculty student ratio is good considering each department takes only 55 students from each batch of BS-MS students. The teaching method and style varies from teacher to teacher along with the grading pattern for exams. The term exams are mostly fine if you have understood and practised the topics covered in the classes but they are mostly based on understanding and problem solving type questions rather than memorisation based.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

students can undertake various research internships with the professors in the institute as well as apply to foreign and national level internships. the 4th and 5th year students in the chemical sciences have to undertake compulsory project work under a faculty guide and present their findings as part of the course structure.

Fees and Financial Aid

The cost of study is quite low compared to other universities and there is oppurtunity for scholarship for every integrated MSc student through the Dept of Science and Technology (DST)-INSPIRE program or through the Dept of Atomic Energy (DAE)-DISHA program. the two scholarships are similar in the amount of stipend provided but have different requiremnts in CGPA for the continuation of the fellowship.

Campus Life

4

The central library is quite well furnished and has most of the essential books required across semesters and extra as well with a large selection of regular magazines and newspapers. All students of NISER have access to a plethora of research journals in all diciplines of sciences and can also demand the access to the paywalled research papers through the central library system. the classrooms and lecture halls are well furnished and are centrally air conditioned. there are numerous student clubs across all fields from drama and music club to quizzing club, all of which are very much active and buzzing with student actiivities. The campus also hosts two different student cultural fests the UMANG and TVISHA every year which draw a large crowds of students participating and enjoying themselves in a variety of events. The campus boasts a large number of sports facilities like badminton courts, cricket field, football field, TT table, basketball court, tennis court, volleyball court etc

Hostel Facilities

3.5

hostels are provided to all integrated MSc students with double occupancy for the first 3 years and then single occupancy in the final 2 years. the hostel rooms are furnished with a bed, a table and a chair for all students. the rooms are decent in size and also have a cupboard for storage. there are currently 4 different canteens in the campus which provide food at a resonable price set by the authority. the students can choose a canteen according to their choice of menu and pay at the counter and eat. there is no provision of pre payment or month end payments.

This college has 8 semesters. From the 7th semester students are eligible for placements. In 7th,8th semesters different schools come for taking teachers. Usually, RIE students get 1st preference in all JNVs and KVs. Jnvs amd kvs have good contact with RIEs. 400000 per anum is the average and the highest goes to 600000. Generally there is 100% placement but much students prefer pursuing higher course by doing Msc.
