CMRIT College Review as a 5th sem Student

While computer science offers an abundance of opportunities in terms of career, AI & DS offers a very focused path of education to be able to concentrate on specific aspects of our career. The faculty-to-student ratio is approximately 8:69 and this offers us flexibility and compatibility to collaborate together. Most of the faculty members are Ph.D. holders or are currently pursuing it. their teaching methods in class include chalk and board, PPTs, flip classes, and seminars. Overall, the teaching methodology at CMRIT is highly efficient. We have 3 internals every semester, along with lab exams, quizzes, and improvement tests. All of these help us prepare well for our main VTU exams and help us tackle them easily.

We have the concept of Centre of Excellence at CMRIT which serve as in-house training centers and certification program for different domains. Students often complete various certifications from COEs as they offer industry-ready training. I have personally worked with COEs and done internships with Karunadu Technology so far, but I have not received stipends yet. But senior batches receive noteworthy stipends for service-based companies. A lead project that I have worked on would be the tracking of movement on the face to detect emotions. Several competitions and hackathons are also conducted and talents are hence recognised.

Students are allowed to sit for placements in the 7th semester and the eligibility criteria for that is to pass our in house xourse called the TYL(Tie your LACES) course. it focuses on language, aptitiude, coding, experiential learning and soft skills. We need to pass these courses to be able to sit for placements. Prominent companies such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, etc all come in for recruitment. In the past, we have had Amazon also. Other corporations such as Zenken also collaborate with CMR regularly. Offers are for standard roles of software developers. The highest package this year was 29 LPA for Zenken. Average package of 7LPA. Most prominent departments getting placed are from CSE. Approximately 90% of students get placed every year. I personally plan to sit for placements for a service based company.

As a student who has joined through KCET, there is no fees hike personally, just a fixed fee of 1lakh per annum. In general the fees hike policy differs from department to department and the route of joining(entrance exams, management, etc). The cost to study AI&DS through KCET General Merit Quota would be 100000/- ruppees per annum. I have availed the leadership award scholarship through the CMR Jnardhana Trust in my 4th sem. It is a merit scholarship that is given out every year. So far, I am yet to sit for placements.

We have 3 major fests every year. Our cultural fest, Cultura happens in the month of June, our inter-departmental fest, Aura which happens in November, and our sports fest, Spardha which happens in the month of December. The library houses a plethora of research papers, journals, articles, and reference books. We have PCs in the library for use. The classrooms all have projectors and chalkboards. Some special halls are reserved for seminars and all labs are equipped with efficient PCs. Several sports are conducted in the college such as football, basketball, hockey, throwball, badminton, cricket, TT, etc. Our annual sports fest sees a greater footfall each year. Clubs for photography (Iris), Fashion(Kryptonite), and Dance(Pregos) are also well renowned in the area of our college.

My current course in AI and DATA SCIENCE enables me to streamline my choice of career in the future rather than just having a CSE degree. The application form, fees, and dates can all be found on the KCET website and for extra help, the college website. As a General Merit student, the process was fairly simple to go through. As I was a part of the covid batch, there was a lot of chaos but now the structure for admission seems a lot more organized. As a suggestion for improvement, perhaps more counseling centers for entrance exams could be hosted.
