Course Curriculum Overview
I am first year btech student in engineering physics and the reason behind choosing this branch was that I have an interest in research and EP is a research oriented branch. Faculty in my department are so cool and they are the best teachers you can find. Roughly student to teacher ratio at IIT B is 12:1. The thing I like the most about faculty is the way they communicate with each and every student. Every faculty member are highly qualified, many of them have worked in foreign universities. If I talk about exam we have four major test in a single sem ( 1st quiz , mid sem ,2 nd quiz , end sem) and if you just pay attention to lectures it is easy to pass exam at least in first year.
Internships Opportunities
Internships in Consulting giants like- Bain and Company, BCG (Boston Consulting Group) are offered to students. Often students also go for university internships in United States and around Europe. Internships often last around 2-3 months and stipend offered is around 1-2 lacs per month.
Placement Experience
Students are allowed to sit for placement at the end of their 7 semester. We have an excellent placement cell managing this entire process. The highest package was 3.67 crore, internationally, and 1.68 crore domestically. Also, the average placement was 21.82 lacs per annum. Personally, I'm interested in Scientific Research in Physics and is planning to pursue my PhD in Theoretical High Energy Physics from MIT, United States.
Fees and Financial Aid
Generally in IIT's it cost to you around 10-12 lakh until you get graduated. Here at IIT B one sem tuition fees is around 124000 and hostel&mess fees around 35500. As IIT's are government institutions you get many types of scholarships depending on family income and your category. You can also apply for loan to pay fee.
Campus Life
IIT Bombay organises so many fest. You can find something is going somewhere in campus everyday. Out of all the events Mood Indigo (Asia's biggest college cultural fest) is something we all wait for, just after the Mood Indigo there is techfest where you see the out of the world innovation from whole country. If I talk about classrooms , there are two Lecturer hall complex in which there are many classroom of different capacities. All the classrooms are equipped with centralised air conditioners. There are also so many social and cultural clubs at IIT B. You can literally find club for each and every field of entertainment.
Hostel Facilities
Here at IIT B every student is provided with hostel room which is a double sharing romm till 3 rs year after that you get single occupancy room in your 4 th year. Hostels is the part where IIT B lags as campus is so old some of the hostels are so old and small. When they were built they were built according to one person but now as numbers of students are increased, they are used as double sharing room which make them so congested but aside room size everything is just good. Every hostel has gym, tv room, sports room, badminton, basketball and football courts etc.
Admission
To get admission in IIT we have to give two exams. The first one is JEE main whose application form genrally start in Mid-December. After qualifying Jee mains which happen in two shift (January and April) you have to register for Jee Advanced whose registration starts from the next day once the jee mains result are out. For jee Advanced application fees change every year, this time it was 2800 for general and obc students and 1600 for sc and st students.
