Remarks

The college overall is ranked 5th best in Karnataka. Every college comes with its own highs and lows and so is BIT. The academics and faculty is good. But the placement opportunities and extra curricular is a low point.

Entrance Preview

Well, I attempted the IIT, AIEEE, MHCET, COMEDK and the KCET EXAM. Unfortunately, cleared just the comedk one with a rank of around 3600.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I was a student of Mechanical Engineering. Hence it will be fair on my part to comment only about the mechanical department. The course included a variety of subjects pertaining to mechanical, manufacturing, thermal etc, management as well, which enabled the students to have an overall view of what mechanical engineering is. There were labs which took care of the practical knowledge the student is gaining.

Internships Opportunities

The college does not provide internships. The student are advised to complete about 4 internships arranging them by their own sources which helps them improve their profile for further education.

Placement Experience

3

Placement is mediocre. For the computer science branch, opportunities are vast. Whereas mechanical just has a mere handful of organizations coming in. Computer science students secure a package varying from 3 lakhs per annum to a high of about 12-13 lakhs. Organisations like Bosch, Toyota, l&t, Accenture, Wipro, Infosys, MindTree and a lot more came in. The last few mentioned in the above line, ex Accenture Infosys and Wipro conduct mass recruitments. But as a mechanical engineer graduate, I was not personally inclined towards the software companies. The big shots just took a student or two. Also, an advice to maintain a constant percentage of 75 and above will help you sit through placements in good companies and also help you if you wish to pursue your masters abroad.

College Events

2.5

The college is a house to one of the most wonderful fests named ‘ Manthan’. You are encouraged to participate in it and organize it too. It also has celebrations on certain other festivals. An ethnic Day is held every year. Though the amount of space is very limited, they manage to put up a great show. They also have a pre-placement drive wherein companies come in to explain their expectations. The college also organizes certain awareness programs held in the Kuvempu Kalakshetra.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is manageable by a middle class student. There are also student loans available. It’s about 1.5 lakhs per year if you get through COMEDK. Probably around 50000 if you get through cet. There is also a management seat which is available and it’s defined by the college in the particular year. The fees is on an increasing trend every year and hence this might prove to be a little hinderance to students.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are education loans available by the banks for students. Scholarship isn’t provided. I am not fully aware of this.

Campus Life

3.5

Extracurricular will be a thumbs down from my end since the infrastructure is too small. There are certain cultural events and fest and workshops which are rated as good. Campus life is fairly ok. There are two-three canteens, xerox shops, library available for students. The gender ratio is good. There is no discrimination among students on the basis of their caste, color, religion, ethnicity and economic status. All the students are valued equally.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

I have personally not been in the hostel. Bit has two hostels. One for the boys and one for the girls which is a little far away. The hostel provides average rooms with a basic facility of food in the morning and the evening. The mess food is average and so is the stay.

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors provide us with decent amount of information and help us out in case we have issues. Personally, I have never had interactions with them.

Exam Structure

Lab was held twice a week. They were extremely hectic. Though the attenders are of extreme help. The exam structure includes 3 internals of 25 marks each and a final exam in each semester. There are also lab exams at the end of the semester examined by an external.

Admission

The first step was to attempt for a high score in the exams like KCET and COMEDK. I managed to secure an average rank of 3600 in COMEDK back in 2013. An application form is to be filled to begin the process. After which you sit for the exam and finally get your results. The next important thing is to be ready with the colleges and branch of your choice in a priority manner. After which, one sits for the counselling process and is called out according to their rank and asked to choose with what is remaining in the pool.

Faculty

4

The faculty stands at a medium- good level. Certain professors have an excellent teaching method whereas a few, as the truth always is, are inclined towards finishing the courses unaware of whether the students actually understand the subject. The Department of Mechanical engineering headed by one of the most knowledgeable professors, Dr. Jagadish, overall has a good line-up of professors who are highly qualified.

From your 7th semester you become eligible to get placed and it is mandatory to get internship before you get placed which the college helps you to get and around 400-500 companies visit, and a good amount of offers are made by them. The average package stands somewhere around 11LPA -12LPA and the highest goes to 50LPA-60LPA and the median stands around 9-10LPA.

Course Curriculum Overview:

As I'm in 1st semester. I will update you after my exams. But one good thing is that from this year, internals and externals will hold same weightage i.e., 50/50 If you can score more than 45% in internals which wouldn't be that big of a deal because they'll ask most the questions from class notes. Most of the faculties are average I would say. But some are good professors too. I chose CSE because I find these topics interesting since junior school. And everyone is just jumping into cse is a reason too lol.
