Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course teaches about the planning of neighbourhoods, wards, cities and regions in both rural and urban areas. It fascinated me to get admission here as the world is facing global warming and other disaster due to unplanned development and it is a course that will help resolve and reduce these issues. The faculty members are experienced but the new joiners are not up to the mark.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

The college mandates internships for 2nd and 3rd year-planning students during summer vacation. I did my internship at BSDMA, Patna after my second year and at IIT BHU, Varanasi as a research intern after my third year.

Placement Experience

3

The college hardly provides placement but in the architecture department the placement goes as high as 20 lakhs and in the planning department it goes up to 12 lakhs. The average package is 6 lakhs. I am thinking of a master's in environment planning.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college fees are quite low in comparison to other NITs and IITs but the mess fee of the hostel increased in the middle of the semester which is not corrected because of that people might face hurdles. The college should think about underprivileged students.

Campus Life

4.5

The SPA hostel celebrates many festivals- independence day, Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi etc. The college has 2 annual fest Utopia and Mini Utopia and the campus is filled with installations made by the SPAkriti society. There is Athlos which is a sports event of the college. There are 13 societies in the college.

Admission

The admission for the course was done through JEE mains paper 3. And the allotment for the college was as per Josaa counselling 2020. The eligibility was any course in commerce or science with mathematics as a compulsory subject. The college provided admission to reserved classes - ST and SC and also to J&K migrants.

Placement Experience:

From your final year, you are eligible to sit for placements. But considering the planning field, 90% of the students pursue higher education. Placement from college is average as the max CTC you can get is 8LPA for bachelors. Companies like CBRE, L&T, Unitrans, LEA Associates, AECOM, CSE, CEEW etc are the major hirers. I am personally interested in pursuing higher education after my bachelors.

Architecture was the main goal but i ended up in planning. Looking at how I could work just a few hours lesser than architecture students, i thought this would be easier. Its not. You need to be careful while choosing this course. Its not just an easy pie.

Placement Experience:

There are two internships (mandatory). One in the end of 2nd year another in the end of 3rd year. Both of them are of 6 weeks. It's all on us where we want to do and we select our best preference then college sends out letter of recommendation and then and if accepted good otherwise college will send u to DDA and other government offices. There are placements after bachelors but it's recommended to complete masters before doing job. It increases your market value exponentially

Course Curriculum Overview:

The future scope to apply and learn different courses is large. Planning is the next upcoming sector. Beneficial for civil services knowledge. Faculty have more than 30 years of experience in field/teaching. Term exams are not difficult to prepare but difficult to score.

Placement cell is very weak in college for undergraduate courses. Maximum package in the range of 4-6 lakhs per annum. The majority of the students apply for master in planning courses or MBA. Eligibility for government jobs is also after master's in planning courses.

Remarks:

The college has brought out the best in me. What I always wanted to do in my Life (Architecture), I'm living that Life now. The college does its best to bring out the ideas and creativity hidden in every student. However, this brings out lots of pressure and work load on students. Most of them does their best, gives their hard and soul and they do great. But some can't handle their pressure and they give up. So, the college can do something as of which the students burden lightens up and it's not a pain to them anymore. Moreover, the college being a government college, the administration works really slow. This is one of the drawback of the college.

Remarks:

Every college has some good things for which they are known. However, since nothing is perfect, there are some drawbacks of the college as well.SPA, Delhi is one of the best architecture colleges in India and therefore the knowledge you get from here is outstanding. The faculties are interactive but they make you work like crazy. But that's how we go about it. The fest and the other activities are very fun and there is no way any one misses it. However, the drawback would be how the administration works. SPA being a Government college, lacks behind how the office works and how the cleanliness isn't maintained. This issue is trying to be solved, but other than that evrything seems normal.
