Remarks

The college has brought out the best in me. What I always wanted to do in my Life (Architecture), I'm living that Life now. The college does its best to bring out the ideas and creativity hidden in every student. However, this brings out lots of pressure and work load on students. Most of them does their best, gives their hard and soul and they do great. But some can't handle their pressure and they give up. So, the college can do something as of which the students burden lightens up and it's not a pain to them anymore. Moreover, the college being a government college, the administration works really slow. This is one of the drawback of the college.

Entrance Preview

JEE- Paper 2 was given in which I had scored 94 percentile. Always wanted to pursue my career in Architecture and Planning and SPA Delhi being one of the best college here in India, I always had the utmost desire to get admitted in this college.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course is fun. It makes us think out of the box, not the usual and common ideas but every though must be unique. That how we become more and more creative each day. Moreover, my course being Planning, we have to look into different aspects of the society before planning anything. the various aspects might be economic aspects, social aspects, etc.

Internships Opportunities

Every year during our summer break, we are supposed to do our internship for 45 days and the companies are to be chosen by us. So, depending on the companies, some are paid while some aren't. If paid, the stipend varies from 3000-15000 per month. But as for me, I haven't worked for companies with payment.

Placement Experience

2

The job opportunities are good but Our college does not have placements. However, every students is in good terms with the passed out students and the faculties who helps the students to get into various companies. Since the college is more like a family, everyone keeps in touch and contact the students whenever any offers or projects come up where they need the students. The final year students are always guided by the faculties and they help them get in touch with the various people they know. Also, the ex students of the college contact these students and inform them about the various firms and companies requiring planners or invite them to their private firms with good packages.

College Events

5

The college fest, Utopia is the major event held in college two times every year. The first college fest is the Mini Utopia held around Oct-Nov. This is basically for the freshers to participate and show their various talents. the seniors try their best to maximize the freshers participation which helps them to get along with the college lifestyle and environment. It is a two-day fest where every society tries their best to make their events outshine. It ends with a DJ night, where everyone dances to their maximum. The other event, which is the main fest, UTOPIA is held in and around Feb- March. This is a three day event where the entire college participates. The installations is one of the few things you shouldn't miss if you're in SPA. The students work day and night to make their college look its best. EVen Graffiti and Wall Paintings throughout the college buildings are done, where the students show their creativity. Many outsiders are also called to come and perform in the college. It is a fun 3 day night where students forget their class owrk, submissions, etc. and just dissolve themselves in the fest.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The college being a Government college, the fees are very feasible. The college fee is around 20000 per annum.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college does have many scholarship offers from time to time. Some scholarships are for the STs, SCs and OBC's. Besides this, there are scholarships for those whose family income is less than 3 lacs per annum. There have to appear for interview and provide some papers after which their fees is taken care of by the college and they receive 1000 every month.Another fees is for the planning female students only, Apoorva Rustagi (she is an ex SPAite who passed in a scootie accident as soon as she passed out from the college). this fees is given only to a student or two every year and the criteria is based on writing few essays and some interviews. Whosoever is selected, her fees is taken care of by the college.

Campus Life

1.5

Campus Life is very chilled out here. the students are always occupied with work, but they make time howsoever to have fun and enjoy. The gender ratio is almost equal and the diversity is vast. Students from all across India is seen here and even FN students are enrolled here.Sports competition happens in the hostel every now and then, however, the main college sport event, ATHLOS is held around March in JLN stadium. Debates, etc. happen during college fest. They are very well managed and the participation is maximum.

Hostel Facilities

2

The infrastructure of the hostel is pretty sad. The hostel room are very small, just one seater kinda size which has to be shared by 2 to 3 students which becomes very difficult with the stuffs we have. The cleanliness is not upto mark which is one of the drawbacks of our hostel. However, all the facilities are provided at its best. And there are no restrictions as such. Moreover, because of the scarcity of the rooms, it is allotted every year based on their marks. Only Top 5 students are given rooms every year. The mess provides different kinda food every day. However, for me, I don't really prefer the mess food. I don't find it hygienic nor the taste satisfactory. The hostel fee is 14000 and the mess fee is 27000. Looking into the fees of todays date, the rate is very low and feasible for all types of students. However, the admission fee has increased in my three years of staying here. Moreover, the mess fee has been increasing immensely with no change in the type of food though. And another problem is that we can't cancel the mess. It is compulsory for all the hostellers to pay their mess fee.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is amazing in SPA Delhi. the entire college is like a family who are in contact even after they have passed out. the senior students are very helpful and the students confronts the seniors for their help before approaching to the teachers. Any students having a major work or a project or a submission, the entire hostel is awake helping them to complete and to bring out the best results possible.

Exam Structure

The exam structure is pretty simple. However the jury leaves us all drained out with sleepless nights for days looking all exhausted and drained out. but, once the jury is done, the students are in their happiest state. After the jury, a week or two is given before the exams, which goes pretty fine as the structure and routines are always very well made.

Faculty

3.5

The faculties are great. They are moulding us to become the great visionaries of tomorrow. They are all very experienced in what they do and the things they teach. Most of the time, we have a discussion based class where we are asked to share our views which helps us to understand the things we learn in a much simpler way. This even helps them to understand each student, their ideas and thoughts which they look upon to and guide it in a proper way. However, at times, a lot of assignments are given all together not considering the work and assignments given by the other teachers. This puts us into a lot of pressure and backlogs, which at times puts the students into a lot of stress. Some teachers are friendly and considers the problems of the students, however, some do not consider and rather believes that it's just an excuse which disheartens the students. But, I believe this might be the story of every schools and colleges. The faculties as an overall teaches us based on their experiences and gives us examples of their work and projects they undertook in their work which helps us to understand the course better. They believe more in practical work than just theory.

Architecture was the main goal but i ended up in planning. Looking at how I could work just a few hours lesser than architecture students, i thought this would be easier. Its not. You need to be careful while choosing this course. Its not just an easy pie.

Placement Experience:

There are two internships (mandatory). One in the end of 2nd year another in the end of 3rd year. Both of them are of 6 weeks. It's all on us where we want to do and we select our best preference then college sends out letter of recommendation and then and if accepted good otherwise college will send u to DDA and other government offices. There are placements after bachelors but it's recommended to complete masters before doing job. It increases your market value exponentially

Placement cell is very weak in college for undergraduate courses. Maximum package in the range of 4-6 lakhs per annum. The majority of the students apply for master in planning courses or MBA. Eligibility for government jobs is also after master's in planning courses.

Remarks:

Every college has some good things for which they are known. However, since nothing is perfect, there are some drawbacks of the college as well.SPA, Delhi is one of the best architecture colleges in India and therefore the knowledge you get from here is outstanding. The faculties are interactive but they make you work like crazy. But that's how we go about it. The fest and the other activities are very fun and there is no way any one misses it. However, the drawback would be how the administration works. SPA being a Government college, lacks behind how the office works and how the cleanliness isn't maintained. This issue is trying to be solved, but other than that evrything seems normal.
