Course Curriculum Overview

4

I was always fascinated by Physics so I chose to study Physics Hons. and Jadavpur University is well known for its science faculty and research facilities. The faculty members are highly qualified with most of them belonging to the Top 2% of researchers in the world. One of our professors is an elite member of the Royal Society of London. Faculty members have global connections and believe in a modern approach toward science. The faculty-student ratio is high as we have limited seats. The terms exams are conducted as per the academic calendar and one needs to have proper understanding and conceptual knowledge to pass the exams.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Many Indian and foreign companies provide internship opportunities. The professor may also collaborate with professors from different institutions and provide internships. Recommendations from professors may also help in getting internships in highly reputed govt institutions.

Placement Experience

3.5

For science banking corporates and edtechs are the main companies who hire. Other than that Amazon, Google, Dell, hp, Mera, TCS, Wipro, SBI, ONGC, etc. are the biggest companies that hire engineering students. One of the students managed to get a package of 1.8 crores in the UK. We also prefer studying for exams like NET, JAM, GATE, SSC CGL, UPSC, etc.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure is nominal at Jadavpur University. The annual fees are less than 5000 rupees and exam fees are less than 100 rupees. The fee hike is very less. We get multiple scholarships. We have govt. as well as private scholarship opportunities. The university also waives tuition fees for those who are economically weak. The university's placement cell brings top companies and provides the highest package.

Campus Life

4.5

Jadavpur University is well known for its campus life. The campus is very big and full of greenery and ponds. Our college cultural fest is one of the biggest college fest of Kolkata i.e. Sanskriti. We have three different faculties and all three faculties organize Sanskriti, mainly in the first quarter of the year. We also have a tech fest. There are many clubs starting from photography, painting to mountaineering and entrepreneurship cells. We have separate libraries for all departments and a common central library.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The hostels are a bit old and worn out but considering the hostel fees and mess fees it's worth it. The fee is less than 2000 per month. The food is also good. Chicken is made every day. Veg meals are also available. Rice and daal are unlimited. One needs to apply for a hostel on the day of counseling. For a rented room or pg one can look in the areas of Sulekha, bikramgarh, Vijay Garh, garfa, etc.

Admission

My admission was done based on my class 10 and class 12 board results. But now we have entrance exams for admission. The eligibility criteria for my course is a minimum of 75% in class 12 boards. Relaxations are there for SC, ST, OBC, and PwD. One must have Physics and Maths in +2 for Physics Hons. The application form and all other admission information are available on the main website of Jadavpur University under the Admission section. A specified number of seats are reserved for SC, ST, OBC, and PwD students.

Interview Experience

4

The personal interview conducted was mainly based on the +2 physics syllabus and one needs to have proper and deep concepts of normal physics to excel in the exam. Now we have written exams for entrance tests. The syllabus is the same. +2 physics syllabus of any board.

My plans are to appear for the job interviews but not taking any as I want to study more.

College does provide internship opportunities both through the placement cell as well as department faculty. Semester 5 and Semester 7 students are eligible for placements. Average package is about 5.5 lakh per annum for microbiology course. Although placement percentage is on the lower side majority of students go for higher studies. Many prepare for exams like GATE, IIT JAM, etc.

college placements are good in this college with a number of good financial and consultancy firms coming in with new gen companies as well in the service and sales industry. moreoever getting a good placement in a top financial or consultancy placement requires a POR in a good society as a criteria, its not really required but adds to your chances of getting it. moreover you require to participate in a number of case study competitions for the same as well. my plans after graduation is probably working for a year or two after which i plan on doing my MBA. around 50-60% who apply get a placement.
