Remarks
The institute is a good place to explore many things. But provided you are eager to catch them. No spoon feeding is provided here. If u are Idle then you will remain like that only but if you have that spark to explore then sky is the limit. The institute needs to revise the Curriculum and course structure for certain dept.
Entrance Preview
Being an Institute of National Importance and under MHRD, You have to appear JEE-Main to get into this Institute and also You have to score very good marks in it. Electrical Engineering is a core branch and has jobs in Govt. sector, that's the reason for me to go with this course.
Course Curriculum Overview
Considering the Electrical Department, I would say the Curriculum is not up to date and it lacks many advance and ongoing courses which an Electrical students should know to bag a good job. Though curriculum focuses on Practical Learning but the order of the lab and theory subject is such that a student has a very less opportunity to gain the practical knowledge. But out of this demerits it gives you the opportunity as Open Elective to opt for a course of different branch. And talking about research initiatives, the institute has the highest no. of PhD students among all NITs,this says all about the research environment of this institute.
Internships Opportunities
The college make sure that all students bag an internship for at least 2 months at the end of 3rd Year as it is a compulsory course in the Curriculum. Most of the internships are without stipend, but the average stipend is around 7k per month.
Placement Experience
More or less 90% students get placed in different companies. The placement scenario varies from department to Dept. Ex- 100% placement for CS,EE branches,95% for ME ,more than 80% for EC,EI,CE.(based on the placement scenario of last year). Companies like -Microsoft,Amazon,Flipkart,IOCL,BPCL,TATA steel/Motor,L&T and many IT and Analytics companies.
College Events
The institute has 3 Mega cultural events. Innovision- The Biggest Technical Fest of EAST India, with DJ nights and many more workshops. Its average footfall is around 2k-3k. Celebrity Night-Performance by a Celebrity (previous years-Sonu Nigam/sunidhi chauhan ETC.) Sports Fest.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure is decided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development(MHRD) ,the institute has a very negligible role to play in this. But the students from Reserved Categories are given large concession in the Fees. It's around 1 lac for General Category students and OBC(Non-NCL) , around 35k for OBC(NCL) and 18k for SC/ST students per semester including hostel, mess and all the things.
Fees and Financial Aid
No. But college helps to get a loan or scholarship under government scheme.
Campus Life
It has a club culture, where there is around 60 different club. You will get every chance to explore the inner talent of yourself as the institute has clubs for every activities like from Technical aspects to club for Dance,Acting,Cooking,Spiritual Thoughts etc.
Hostel Facilities
The institute follows compulsory Hostel rules. Till 3rd year you have to share the room, but in final year you will get single rooms. the fee is around 15k per semester including food, lodging. You don't have to pay it separately it comes included in your semester fees. Talking about the food, it varies from Hall to Hall. But the best part is all foods are made in hygiene condition and quality of food is very good considering the price they charge for. Here you will be provided with the best hostel conditions with Internet connection and Security.Food is obviously good comparing with other institutes . This institute is also having the 2nd and 3rd largest Hostel of ASIA.
Alumni/Alumna
In recent 1-2 years Institute is taking initiative to strengthen its Alumni Network. Students get 2-3 times opportunity to interact with the Alumni in a semester. NITRAA- A association for the Alumni and they hold 2 general body meeting in a year.
Exam Structure
This also varies from Dept to Dept. .In the first year all have the same courses and according to the new curriculum you can say that it's a chill culture but that was not the case earlier. after 1st year it depends upon the Dept. but more or less a balance is always maintained. And also you get two days off in a week so it's a chill culture out there.
Faculty
Roughly all the faculties have PhD from renowned Institutes of India and World. Speaking about teaching quality and experience in the field of the subject, I would say in every field there are some best people and worst people, likewise this institute is no exception to that. It varies from Department to Dept. for Ex- Civil department is having the Best faculties and the respected profs. have concrete knowledge in their fields. They are very much student friendly and you can approach them any time to get your doubts clarified. On the other hand, totally opposite case happens with Electrical Dept. though there are very good profs. in terms of knowledge but this number is quite small, other profs. have practically zero knowledge in their field and also they are not that student friendly. Overall view is that this institute is a great place to learn and interact with profs. with small exceptional cases.
