Remarks
Good points: Campus, faculty, courses provided, Security, infrastructure; all of this is upto the mark and perfect.Bad point (need improvement): The college needs to improve on its disciplinary policies. Usage of English language is very low across the ca
Entrance Preview
There is no particular entrance exam for my course (B.Com), admissions are based on percentage achieved in 12th grade. Being an in-house student, we were directly admitted to our choice of course before accepting admissions from outside. (in house students are those who have spent their earlier years of college in the same institution)
Internships Opportunities
Since I was already pursuing my CA articleship, I didn't take any internship offers from my college. However one can expect internship package of 5-6k per month, mostly from small/mid-size CA firms or accounting firms.
Placement Experience
Placements vary from year to year, sometimes there are lot of firms/companies and sometimes very few. However in recent past, the placement cell of the college has managed to place students in prominent banks like HDFC and ICICI. Reliance and Deloitte have also picked students from our campus. Although for good placement offers, one should maintain consistent academic performance throughout the duration of course.
College Events
We have an inter-college festival Hoonar which takes place in December every year it is organised by the cultural forum. We see participation from 40 colleges. There are various festivals conducted by several departments, which is as follows:BMM Department -
Fees and Financial Aid
There are various scholarship schemes from government as well as college (based on merit). However I haven't availed any of them.
Campus Life
Somaiya has one of the most active and energetic campus in Mumbai. It is spread across acres and has amazing facilities for students. We have our own football ground, badminton court, gymkhana, huge chess board and so much more. Since it has minority admission for Gujarati students, lot of Gujarati speaking students can be found across the campus. Gender ratio is fair, however it again depends from course to course. Overall campus wise, equal number of boys and girls can be spotted. Students from various classes/religions/places come to the college and all are treated equally by the college administration as well as by fellow students. These three kinds of students are found in majority, Gujarati speaking, Maharashtrians and Muslims.
Alumni/Alumna
I have never had any personal experience in this regard. However our principal and teachers are always fond of ex-students.
Faculty
However the course curriculum is somewhat repetitive for a student who is pursuing CA. Faculty is very helpful and active. Even the principle of the college is very accessible.
