Course Curriculum Overview

5

Jamia Millia Islamia University is a Central NAAC accredited A++ grade and NIRF ranks 3rd top university situated in New Delhi. Its BDS course is ranked 14 in India. Both college and hostel fees are affordable. Preclinical starts from the first year and clinical practice on patients starts from the third year onwards. Paid one-year rotatory internship in the Dental hospital of the college with the great patient flow makes it the best. The student ratio is 10% thus each student is given proper attention. All faculty members are MDS in specialised subjects with a keen knowledge of both academics and clinical practice. Some of them are even PhD degree holders. Many have their research published in international journals. Their method of teaching is fabulous. They make students understand each and every concept in great depth easily. In the first four years, 3 internal assessments take place which involve both theories as well as practicals and at the end of the year, Final exams are conducted.

Internships Opportunities

5

In the faculty of dentistry after completing the fourth-year internship starts which is of one-year duration. Interns are posted in all departments for clinical posting in a rotatory manner. They pay an ample amount of stipend at the end of the month to the interns. After course completion students clear NEET-PG and study for masters, some students do house jobs at hospitals, and some do practice at clinics. Other do research-related projects.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure is affordable which is around 30, 000 per year. But in the third-year students have to pay hospital affiliation fees and transportation charges as they visit hospitals for medicine and surgery postings. After four years of study, there is one year paid rotatory internship in the dental hospital of the university. That payment is ample for an undergraduate student. One can avail of scholarships through the Ministry of minority affairs (MOMA), Jamia Teachers Association (JTA) and various other scholarship projects, papers and tests conducted from time to time in university.

Campus Life

4.5

Every year foundation day is celebrated on 29 October with great enthusiasm. Various departments conduct their annual fest every year like the Faculty of Dentistry -ZEST, Faculty of Engineering- SPRING FEST, Faculty of Law- TABEER, tech fest like algorithm, cultural fest like MIRAAS etc. Amenities in classrooms are- projector, whiteboard, computer system, WiFi, air conditioner etc. There is a huge sports stadium with all indoor and outdoor games, and audience seating area, gym named Pataudi stadium. There is also a grand auditorium named MA Ansari Auditorium with great seating capacity and all necessities. Conferences and various college functions are held there. There is a large central canteen where food is very hygienic and tasty. Social groups like JSF-Jamia Students' Forum(@jsf_jamia) on Instagram.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

There are 2 halls of girls' residence one is new which is within the campus and another old one which is at some distance. There is one boys' residence hall. Their halls consist of 4-5 hostel buildings. The rooms with beds, mattresses, a study table, a side table with a mirror, separate cupboard. 24hr wifi facility, water coolers on each floor, reading hall, tv room, mess. Veg and non-veg meals are provided. Breakfast, lunch and dinner with a great restaurant-type menu. Quality is great and so is the staff. One has to apply for a hostel after admission through the JMI website(jmi.ac.in) and give an interview. Selected candidates list is published and hostels are allotted. The hostel is far far better than those rented rooms or PG. One should always try their best to get selected for Jamia hostel as they are the best place where students can live comfortably and study. There are many rooms on rent and PGs available near the hostel in Okhla, Batla House area.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Dentistry combines both academics and artistic skills. So if you have an eye for esthetic dentistry can be the choice for you as it was for me. Faculty: student ratio is 1:10 All the faculty are highly experienced and have great clinical knowledge and expertise. They are MDS degree holders. Usually, lectures are conducted as PowerPoint presentations and at times blackboard teaching. Practical knowledge is gained by practicing on dummy models. Exams are conducted regularly. They are divided into four parts. The first 3 exams are conducted at an interval of 3-4 months. It includes both theoretical and practical. The last and final professional exam is conducted at the end of the session each year in the month of June or July. The checking in all the exams is strict. The minimum passing percentage is 50% in both theory and practical separately It is important to qualify in the first three exams so as to appear in the final professional exams

Admission:

My admission process was very easy. I got admission through merit basis via Delhi University on sports quota. Although there are only 40 seats available every year, high priority is given to those who deserve. That is what I like about this college. Other seats are available through entrance exams, SC/ST/OBC.
