Remarks
The college is very strict with rules and regulations. And if not followed strict and immediate action is taken against the student.
Entrance Preview
I didn't not give any of these really popular exams that most students tend to give after their 12th grade. The only exam I gave was the St. Xavier's College BMM and BMS entrance test. The test are very basic and can easily be cracked if you are creative, are good in general knowledge and have about 80% idea of the current happenings around the globe (mostly based on India)
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum here in st. Xavier's is better than any other college. Firstly, because of the autonomy given you are not bound to only be studying from the textbooks that Mumbai university tells you to use. Secondly, Every subject is taught in depth and in a very professional way where you understand and learn to apply what you are learning in real life.
Internships Opportunities
College does provide you with summer internship. They send you an email which you are supposed to fill and you get calls from potential companies for an interview. The stipend depends on your job and mostly ranges form 2k - 8k
Placement Experience
There are I house placements done by the college but students don't necessarily have to do it . Being in a college like xaviers does give you a more chance over another student of a diffeeent college. The skills and the projects do help you to build your CV .
College Events
Malhar is one of the biggest college fests in the country. It has a workforce of 3000 people. Every department in college has a department fest or a conference or a debate that takes place every year. B.A has their theatrical called Ithaka where various plays are written and directed by the college students. The department of mass media has their yearly conference called zeitgeist, the students invite huge people who have had a huge impact in the media to come speak to the students and tell them about their experience and answer questions asked by the students.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees are pretty feasible if compared to other colleges. BMM is a self financing course and the government doesn't provide for anything for these courses. The fees ranges from about 24000 to 26000 depending on which year you are joining. Although you have to keep paying throughout the year for the things you keep using in college. Like if you want to use the studio room you have to pay Rs. 1000/ hour. And other things like that.
Fees and Financial Aid
College does offer good scholarships for students. I don't know in detail about any as I haven't applied for any.
Campus Life
As the principal would like to come to every class and say that how "Xavier's is a fest infested college". Xavier's is all about fests, debates, exchange programmes and anything and everything that would get us out of class. These fest help students to mingle outside of the classroom and people from their subject with others in the college. People from all over India as well as the world come together to make these fest wonderfully worthwhile.
Hostel Facilities
I haven't stayed in the hostel, but according to my "hostelite" friends it's the most amazing experience to be staying in the college hostel. The hostelites have so much fun within themselves and don't ever utter a single thing about what happens in the hostel. According to them what happens in the hostel stays in the hostel.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumi and seniors in college are very helpful. They help you guilds you through your course as they have done it before. They also help in getting internships and other opportunities.
Exam Structure
Exams are divided into three parts : 1. CIA 1 - 20 marks ( it is the first written exam, mostly very objective but not in all subjects) 2. CIA -2 - 20 marks ( practical exam. A project is given which has to be submitted by the due date. The projects aren't ppts and Wikipedia copied stuff. The faculty expects to you to do your research well and coordinating with the teacher complete the project according to which marks will be awarded ) ( the CIA 1 and CIA 2 are sometimes combined and are done by a few teachers only) 3. End sem exam - it's a 60 marks written paper
Admission
So the college releases a statement on the college website and all the boards in the college have a notice put up in April that the filling of the form for the entrance test will begin from so and so date ( mostly 1st may). They give you a timeline as to when the form can be filled (all of this is done online). You are supposed to fill in this form for the entrance test as well as the Mumbai university form. You are supposed to pay a fees when you submit the form ( fees details on xaviers.edu). So if you get less than 60% you are not eligible to give the entrance test even if you have paid the form fees, it is a non refundable amount. After this they give you a code and you're allotted classrooms where you are supposed to give your exam with takes place in the first week of June after the college reopening. Then candidates are shortlisted and are called for a personal interview. Then the final list is realeased as to who is selected and who is not. It is almost as competitive as JEE, NEET and other exams. About 3000 people every year give the exam out of which only 60-65 people are selected.
Faculty
The college faculty is amazing and very well versed in what they are doing. BMM has some of the best teachers that come to teach you. If you have prof. Kishu teaching you, you are blessed. He's the most maxing teacher you could ever have in your years of existence on this earth. The head of dept. Mrs. Perrie Subramaniam is a boss lady and you will love her no matter what.
