Remarks

To be eligible for applying for XLAT, that is, the entrance exam for law one must have an aggregate of 45% in his/her board exams and 45 in the best of four subjects at least. Your stream, that is, whether you're from science, humanities, or commerce, doesn't matter at all. And yes, you should be less than 20 years. The application form is on the official website and the application fee is around 1000 INR. The admission process takes place right after the board exams. This year it started in June. There's no reservation benefit as such for law. The admission test comprises 4 sections- English, Legal aptitude, Gk, Maths, and current affairs. I think the admission test actually tests a student's intellect. If a student has prepared sincerely, no one can stop him/her from getting into the college. I think the admission process is the best way to get into my college where meritorious students get a chance.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I always wanted to study a professional course and was interested in Political Science and Sociology. So, law was the best option for me. St. Xavier's University, Kolkata provides you with the education you need to excel in the field of law. The ratio is around 8:55. For example, some subjects are taken by two professors and some are taken by a single professor. Our faculties are highly qualified, most of them having a Ph.D. degree from reputed Universities like National Law University, Delhi, National Law UNiversity, Hyderabad, and the West Bengal University of Juridical Science. They explain the concepts very well and they are also available beyond class hours to clarify a student's doubts. They are also willing to assist students with respect to internships and other opportunities. The Semester exams are difficult. If you think you'll study one night and pass, you're so wrong! These exams actually test your merit so you've got to be very proficient with the subject to score well.

Internships Opportunities

3

Our college highly encourages us to fetch an internship. As per the Bar Council of India, we need to show 20 weeks of internship to get our degree while passing out. So, it's mandatory for us to do at least one internship( 1 month) every year. In case we are unable to find internships, our college s willing to help us. Our college gave an internship under two established advocates of the Calcutta High Court. Usually, these internships are unpaid.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarships are not generally available if you're from a middle-class family. For financial assistance, you've to get in touch with the authorities. From the first to the sixth semester the fee is 60000 INR per Semester. From the seventh till the tenth Semester, the fee is 72000 INR.

Campus Life

4

We have our annual fest XAVRANG, during the month of December. Apart from that, we have ongoing events and competitions organized by the different societies. We have various societies like the debating society, the cultural society, the sports society, the literary society, the photography society, and the law and justice society. We also have the Xaverians in Action, that is, a society specially dedicated to social work. These societies are very active in their creative endeavors and also bring in opportunities to participate in various intercollege events. There are many events organized from time to time throughout the year. We have an e-library but as Xavier Law School is just established, there are not many books in the library. We have Air Conditioner classrooms with blackboards, projectors, and a podium as well.

Placement Experience:

Number of students who have been placed is far less than what it should be ideally. Kolkata is a paradise for law practice as it is the largest city of India and lawyers have always been in demand here. Still only 30% of the students are placed here and that's a big issue considering the name of our college.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The main thing that I love about the curriculum is that we need to study in depth. Our syllabus contains most basic to really professional level stuff which really help us prepare for real life experiences and further academic pursuits. The only change i would like is more practical experiences that would be helpful.

I was fond of international reletaions in my +2 days, thats why I choose Political Science as my honours subject over History. Hence. later I found very boring and monotonous in the first year of its syllabus. After having 3 years of immense syllabus, I have finally fall in love with subject in the final as my beloved IR(International Relations) subjects finally came into my life. There was yearly only one exam contains 2 parts accumating questions.
