Remarks
One can pursue B.Sc in Microbiology if they have a minimum percentage of 50% in their class 12th or equivalent examination. The application form can be found on the official website of the college. The college provides reservation benefits, one who wants to avail of the benefits has to only mention their caste in their application form. The admission process is thorough and the college authorities operate fully with the students.
Course Curriculum Overview
The faculty consists of 6 professors and 3 guest lecturers. Each semester consists of about 30 students. The laboratories are really spacious to accommodate all the semesters at once. Out of all the faculty members, two of them are doctors, the others are pursuing PhD. They teach in an interactive manner, with the use of laptops, projectors, and display boards. All the practicals are performed in hands-on mode. The term exams were timely only in the 1st semester, but due to the pandemic were not held timely in the later semesters. The semesters are not that easy to pass, one needs to pass thoroughly and revise the syllabus at least once to score 80%.
Fees and Financial Aid
The total of 6 semesters, costs about 84,000 INR covering all costs, such as tuition fees, lab fees, IT fees, semester fees, examination fees, etc. There is no hike in the fee structure. A candidate can avail of several scholarships such as Swami Vivekananda Scholarship, West Bengal post-matric scholarship for SC/ ST/ OBC, Kanyashree, etc. There is no job provided by the campus to ease the financial condition of a candidate.
Campus Life
There are several fests, and socials held for the students each year. Upon admission into the college, a freshers party is held for all the new students in semester 1. The college also organizes individual freshers' parties in the individual departments. The library has nearly all books and journals related to the particular courses, it also provides online access to its collection of books and journals. Moreover, one can get e-books on their pen drives. The classrooms are spacious for all the departments, benches are arranged for the students to sit. The students who are majoring in courses involving laboratory work, do not have many spacious classrooms, they mostly have works in the laboratories. In the Microbiology department, there is a society called Microbiologist's society, India which organizes several events such as workshops, webinars, hands-on training, quizzes, etc. One can connect with research professionals and teachers from all over India via this society.
