Remarks

Every year an exam called NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is conducted nationwide at the All-INDIA level. Students seeking admissions in various medical courses throughout the country mandatorily have to qualify for this test and clear the required cutoff marks/ranks (which vary every year) to get admission to a medical college. I appeared in the same examination in the year 2020 and got 592 marks and was allotted to North Bengal Medical College, I had to report to this college in the stipulated time to confirm my admission. I didn't avail any kind of reservation benefits.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose MBBS to become a doctor as I always wanted to help society by contributing to healthcare. The faculty: student ratio is around 1:20 per subject. The quality of education is really nice and relevant as all the medical colleges mandatorily have to comply with the curriculum designed by the National Medical Council of India, also the parent university "WBUHS" keeps a close watch on the medical colleges of West Bengal so that they meet the minimum required course quality. The faculty/professor are themselves doctors and are well qualified, they are able to give more practical orientation to the whole MBBS course. Each year has 3 semesters and 1 professional exam conducted, students have to qualify for professional examinations to qualify for the next year. The difficulty level is a bit tough since the syllabus is huge.

Placement Experience

5

The students are eligible for placements only after completing their medical MBBS degree. The students can choose to work in the college associated hospital, and also can approach nearby private hospitals themselves for placements/jobs. The students working in the college associated hospital receive Rs. 63k/month on average; whereas those working in private hospitals get a pay of Rs. 200-300/hour. Almost 100% of the students get placed every year. I want to pursue higher studies (post-graduation) after this degree.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees are regulated by the Govt. of West Bengal and are kept very reasonable (Rs. 6000/year) Also, the students who cannot afford the fees are supported with scholarships by the west Bengal government itself. The students during their mandatory internship get a stipend of Rs. 28000/month.

Campus Life

5

The annual fest is conducted annually is called "PLASMA", is organised during the month August-September. The library is well versed with a variety of books, students can read and get them issued for a required amount of time for free of cost. Classrooms are of good quality and are well equipped with ACs, projectors etc. The campus has one football ground, one cricket ground, one badminton court, and one volleyball court also the hostel has many indoor game facilities like table tennis, carrom etc. Many sports and cultural events are being organised frequently throughout the year. -No, there are no social groups; only one student unit is there which takes care of all the student issues and affairs.

Hostel Facilities

3

The hostel has basic electricity and water facilities free of cost, other than that nothing is provided. Only one empty room is allotted with no furniture. The meal quality is not very good and has no fixed menu, however mess options are plenty, the students can choose from.. The registration process for a hostel is hassle-free, everyone is allotted a room during the admission only. and the affordability is superb; the hostel fee is Rs.144/year only! The students can room a PG/room outside the campus which is easily available too

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is completely based on NMC new guidelines. Along with the theory classes where we know the structure and their working in dissection we actually see them on cadaver . Lectures should be more interesting as it's get boring to literally listen the concepts for first time like a story and at the end we forget everything

Course Curriculum Overview:

Medical field is a really good field in my opinion to serve humankind and learn about science of nature and life!the curriculum is a little overpaced and there are 19 subjects which are taught in a timespan of 4.5 years which is a bit hectic! There are 4 professional exams and 9 semesters which have pretty good difficulty and assess our skills and education. We have regular examinations in around 4-5 months each. Only thing id like to change in the curriculum is better assessment of many topics which are taught pretty well but aren't examined much leading us to waste our time in focussing on them.
