Admissions in National institutes are done on JEE mains ranking basis. There are shortlisting and counselling rounds. Eligibility for JEE mains is 12th with physics and maths from recognised board. There is a 27 percentage reservation for obc candidates. The admission process is purely based on merit.

Faculty are experienced and they are experts in their fields. But in first year faculty is mixed as the course is the same for all departments. The teaching method is mixed chalk and talk as well as ppts. Powerpoint presentations are boring. One semester is of about four to five months and exams are like this structure Minor 1: 20 (2 nd month), Minor2: 20 (3rd month), Major: 50 (final month), Internal assessment: 10. Exams are not easy whether it's minors or majors. For good scores, regular lectures, recommended books and out of the box thinking is required.

Companies like Morgan and Stanly and JP chase give stipends during training for roles of a software engineer. I got my internship at GSK consumer healthcare limited. My project was assigned by my mentor and was based on lean manufacturing.

From the 7th semester, students become eligible for campus placements. There are hundreds of companies that visit the college. Capgemini, L&T, RIL are mass recruiters. The highest package was 40 LPA offered by Microsoft for software engineer profiles. About 80 percent of students get placements from eligible candidates. After BTech, I got admission in M.Des.

In 2016-17 they increased the fees. For the income group, more than 5 LPA fees were 62k per semester. But in the general entire, 4 years BTech degree cost is about eight lakhs including all components like tuition, hostel, mess, books and overheads. I don't get a scholarship or stipend.

There are two annual fests one in March called utkansh and the second in October called techniti. There is a library but it's hard to find any book which is recommended by faculties if found they are very small in number like 5 copies for 80 students. Classrooms from the 2nd year are best in class. There are many societies for extracurricular activities like dance and music.

In hostel room there is one bed, one table, one almirah and a LAN cable for each student. Upto 2nd year hostels are on sharing basis. Hostel food quality is good, some hostels has non veg dishes also. Hostel fees is 2500 per semester and mess fees is about 3 to 6 thousands per month. Pg is available in maqsudan and jalandhar city.
