Entrance Preview

I took the entrance exam which is held by Ramkrishna Mission Resedential College(Autonomous). I scored 52 out of 100. My rank was 7. I opted for this college as it has an awesome faculty in all subjects. The infrastructure is state of the art.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

My course which is B.Sc(Hons) in Economics consists of 16 papers divided across 6 semesters. The parts include macroeconomics, microeconomics, statictical economics, developmental economics, Indian economics, public economics, internatinal trade and Indian economic history since independence. I had 2 pass subjects uptill 2nd year (4 semesters). I choose Mathematics which is compulsory for economics and Statistics. One might choose Pol Sc. as well instead of Statistics.

Internships Opportunities

The college does not offer a stipend. However students get a scholarship based of merit and means. During admission students who require a scholarship are asked to mention that in their application forms.

Placement Experience

1.5

Being an honors college, the college does not offer any placements till now. But having a degree from this college offers wide opportunities to get admission into top universities for post graduation and hence get a great job.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure for a student not getting a scholarship is Rs. 2300/- per month including hostel charges and tuition fees. Prior to each exam, an exam fee of Rs. 400 is charged and a session fee of Rs. 6000/- is charged each session.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarship is offered to students in terms of merit and means. Different percentage of scholarship is offered to different students in terms of their family income and merit.

Campus Life

4.5

It is an all boys hostel. No girls get admission strictly. There are no hostel parties. Seniors mingle with juniors like elder brothers. No type of ragging. A football, cricket and table tennis tournament is held every year.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni of this college is very helpful as are the seniors. They help us in every way possible including giving us important notes and guiding us in every ways possible.

Exam Structure

There are two semesters in a year. Prior to each semester there is a mid-semester. The exam schedule is neither hectic nor chilled out. The exams structure is very well designed to help students learn their subjects.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The syllabus and curriculum of Calcutta University is aligned with other entrance examination (eg.IIT JAM, JEST, TIFR, GATE etc.) Specially for the Physics BSc course. And the syllabus is updated Artificial intelligence bacis, Python Advance level is in syllabus, it's completed in college. Point to be Noted - The time given to prepare for the exam is sometimes ample but sometimes it is very less. So we have to prepare syllabus in time which is little bit frustrating.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.
