Remarks
In order to be eligible for the course, one must have a graduation degree with a minimum score of 60%. The college takes in students by considering the scores of CAT. These forms are rolled out in the month of August and the window for filling is open till September. The candidate can apply for IIM U using the same form. After filling out the form, there is a window for editing basic details which opens in the month of October. The main exam happens once a year in the last week of November. The application fee was somewhere around Rs.1800 when I had filled out the form. The candidate's CAT scores are considered for calling students in the next phase of WAT/PI. Cutoff for IIM U goes upto 97%+. Females get a concession of 3% over that under the mandatory guidelines laid down by the Government of India.
Course Curriculum Overview
While evaluating my options across different B schools, at first I wasn't sure about opting for IIM U because it was one of the newer IIMs and the pandemic had just gushed in. But, evaluating the proficiency of faculty at the college along with a well-designed course curriculum, the decision-making became easier. The course curriculum consider a mix of various sectors, helping the student in deciding what field they want to pursue. The faculty to student ratio is 1:15 and almost all our faculties have a Ph.D. degree along with proficient and significant experience in the industry. This helps the students in relating the concepts to real-life examples and understanding them better.
Internships Opportunities
The companies for internships start coming in from the 2nd or 3rd trim. During my time, the process started late in October because of the ongoing pandemic. Even after the situation was such, our college was able to get 100% of their students placed for summer internships. I personally worked at CarDekho as their Summer Intern for Marketing. The average package for the internship went upto Rs. 1.24 lakhs with the highest package being around Rs. 3.3 lakhs for a 2 months period. Almost 27% of these companies have a strong PPO policy, furthering the benefits that come out of the internship opportunity.
Placement Experience
IIM U has a record of getting 100% of its students placed with the highest package being somewhere around Rs. 46.47 lakhs and lowest being around Rs. 16.57 lakhs. The process for placements starts around the 4th or 5th trimester wherein top companies start gushing in to hire the best from the college. Colleges like Google, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Flipkart, etc. visited our campus. The placement process starts with the preparation of the CV of the batch, post which as companies come in, students start applying, and based on the different criteria laid down by the companies, they are shortlisted for different rounds.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
Even after belonging to the GOI, the fees for IIMs compared to IITs and NITs might come on a higher side at first. However, the ROI that a student gets after studying from IIMs is much high. IIM Udaipur is one of the top IIMs when it comes to the performance of the new ones provided with the same exposure. The fee is around Rs.17.5 lakhs for both years combined. The same is hiked at a rate of 2-3% on a year-on-year basis. The college also provides Financial Assistance by way of loans to students at a very low rate of interest (around 6-7%) and scholarships to students belonging to the
Campus Life
Having taken admission right in between the first wave of Covid-19, I did not get the privileged to enjoy the campus life at IIM U except for the last 2 months when things opened up and we were called back. It was a surreal experience in between the state of the art architecture located in one of the most beautiful cities in Rajasthan, India. Many eateries are situated in and around the campus where one gets to enjoy the diverse taste of Rajasthani mouth-watering food at a very reasonable price.
Interview Experience
The admission to IIM Udaipur happens in a phase manner. IIM U is covered under CAP or the Common Admission Process of the IIMs. Under this, once the candidate receives their final CAT score, after meeting the cutoff for IIMs covered under CAP (those that they applied for) , are called in for the Personal Appearances process. Under this, the authorities conduct a WAT/PI common to all CAP IIMs. After calculating the cumulative score from CAT and PA, if the student meets the final cutoff score laid down by IIM U, they are extended the offer for admission. The process to prepare for these rounds are simple and common to majority of the Bschools. For WAT, one should have knowledge about the different industries and how they have been performing over the last few years. This helps them in answering questions for their PI too.
