Remarks

The score which I got in GATE was neither too good not too bad. I was unable to get any old IIT but I was getting some new IITs. Doing M.tech from new IITs is of not much importance as the placements were not that par. So the score which I was having I could get a good NIT. So I went for the CCMT counselling and from there I got NIT Calicut which was ranked 4th in NITs. The placements were also pretty well compared to the new IITs. The college campus is very green and beautiful. Infrastructure and facilities are also good. The sports facilities are great. Hostel and mess facilities is okay I would say. Faculties are great. The are well educated with ample knowledge. The placements are pretty well. If one is focused on placements then my advice is to learn some coding language and practice it to evolve in it. So many good IT companies will. And they will allow everyone no matter what branch you are from. It is all upon your skills and learning.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I wanted a core branch to pursue my Masters as opting for a core branch opens some good opportunities for the PhD also. There is much research going in High Voltage engineering using some very new technologies. The course curriculum is very dynamic with so many options to choose as elective. You are not restricted to any particular subject. For instance being a electrical student I had option to pursue courses of Artificial Intelligence also. Faculties are very well equipped with knowledge. Course work includes different labs to get some hands on experience. Internship opportunities are also there in the start of second year. So we can go for that also and if company likes our work we can get pre placement offer also.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

I was unable to get any internship opportunity.

Placement Experience

4

Placements happens in two sessions- Monsoon and Winter. Most of the good companies come in Monsoon session with some great packages. The highest package are for mostly computer science student. But that is not restricted to them only. If you have the skills you can also get that. 70% companies that visit campus are IT companies. Most of the companies offer CTC above 6 lakh. Opportunities are ample we just have to prepare well for them.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure is pretty decent. For M.tech on an average I paid around 35 thousand for one semester. But as we get stipend of 12400 so the course is almost free for us. Category student can get financial also assistance also if they fulfill the criteria. We have to pay hostel and mess charges on the monthly basis. It costed me around 4000 every month. So the charges are pretty decent compared to other colleges. I got CTC of above 10 lakhs. I cannot share the exact amount as it is confidential. But the package is pretty decent.

Campus Life

4

Life at NIT Calicut is great. The campus is so beautiful that you can get a great shot anywhere. The weather is also pretty decent between July to January after that temperature starts to rise a little. We have technical fest Tathva and cultural fest Ragam which are great. So many great artists come to perform. There are uncountable clubs in which one can take part. So many sports event happen throughout the year. I was the part of cricket team of electrical branch. Inter NIT tournaments are also there.

Exam Structure

GATE-Electrical, 2019, 594

Admission

I applied in more then 20 companies. And got rejected in most of them. But I didn't give up. I cleared around 7 company's test but as I was not very well versed with programming So I was getting rejected in most of them. Most of the companies were from IT background. So from the mid third semester I started coding with my full effort. I even for some AI/ML courses. I practiced from sites like hackerank, leetcode, Geeksforgeeks, Coursera, kaggle. I did many certification Courses. Learning is incomplete without projects. So I did projects on these things along with my major project. I even implemented Machine learning in my course project to get a good handson experience. Also I would suggest practicing aptitude on the daily basis.

Placement Experience:

The placement here is top notch. This year in my campus the highest CTC offered was 56.5lpa by PALOALTO. Placements process is centralised at coimbatore though. Students are eligible for campus placements from third year or s5. Average package in computing department ranges from 10-12lpa. My plans after degree is to pursue MS: opportunities of which are provided by the college itself. In computing department almost 90% of the students have been placed according to the seniors I talked to. However it is lower in other streams.

Civil engineering is a course with least placement in every engineering colleges. Students are placed during their fourth year in college. Sobha Constructions Ltd is one of the main companies that visits college. 200000rupees package is the average package offered. Les than 25 percent civil engineers get placed. I plan to prepare for GATE exam and pursue more in this course.
