Remarks
Gauhati University is the oldest university in Northeast India. It is a state-owned university. In addition to a low fee structure, the university provides numerous scholarship opportunities for all categories of students. The professors here are very approachable and keen to help and guide the students.
Course Curriculum Overview
I completed my B.Tech in ECE and was keen to pursue my post-graduation. I came across their master's program in Signal Processing and Communication provided by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering via their website. As I looked through the course structure, I saw that the course offered subjects like Cognitive Radio, Computer Vision, Wireless, and Mobile Communication, Soft-Computing, Digital Signal Processing, Biomedical Signal Processing, and VLSI design which are some of the ever-booming niches in the field of electronics and communication engineering. The faculties of the Department are dynamic and equally well-experienced. The Department also has a well-stocked library of its own. The Department is associated with the organization of several workshops, training programs, etc.
Placement Experience
After completion of the master's program, one can opt for a Ph.D. or can go for a career as an Assistant Professor. GU conducts GURET which is the first screening test admission into the Ph.D. programs of GU. One can also opt for a job in the IT sector.
Campus Life
The campus area has been developed into a small township, now known as 'Gopinath Bardoloi Nagar'. Apart from the residential quarters of teachers, officers and employees, there are 22 halls of residence for students. The necessary civic amenities such as health service, water supply, street lighting, internal roads, guest house, post and telegraph office, a branch of the State Bank of India, United Bank of India, canteens, a market, parks, playgrounds, auditorium, indoor stadium, etc. are on campus. The Krishna Kanta Handique Library in GU is the largest in Assam.

Admission
I appeared for the entrance exam conducted by the university. Topics from the under-graduation curriculum were included. One needs to have a clear understanding of the basics of the topics covered during under-graduation. The entrance exam was MCQ-based which had negative marks as a penalty for wrong answers.
