College of Veterinary Science, Guwahati was established in 1948 to cater to the need of importance of growth of the veterinary profession and to develop the man power needed to handle the veterinary and animal husbandry activities of the region. The institute carries out field oriented researches in animal husbandry and veterinary, and also provides extension services to the farmers with the aim of technology transfer. The college also provides expert services to the state government departments of the entire North Eastern region of the country, primarily in formulation of developmental plans and policies in animal husbandry sector. It also provides expert services in management and healthcare of wildlife in state zoos, sanctuaries and national parks of the region. College of Veterinary Science offers diploma degree courses for G.V.SC., Ph.D., B.V.Sc. & A.H degrees that create leading graduates in veterinary science and is one of the most reputed colleges in the region.

To get admission to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. program at Assam Agricultural University (AAU), candidates must first register on the AAU admission portal. After registration, they need to complete the online application form, upload necessary documents, and pay the application fee. Eligible candidates must then appear for the Assam Agricultural University Veterinary Entrance Test (AAU VET), which is a state-level entrance examination conducted annually.
The exam assesses knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Admission is based solely on the merit of this entrance exam, with no additional weightage for qualifying examination marks. Candidates must also meet the age criteria, being between 17 and 25 years as of December 31 of the admission year, with a relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST/OBC candidates. Successful candidates are then called for counseling and document verification before final admission.
The BVSc is 5 years course. Students need to complete a rotatory internship programme of one year or six months after the programme to become eligible for registration with the Veterinary Council. Candidate should be Passed 10+2 with a minimum of 45% marks with Biology as a main Subject. Admisison will be based on the score obtained in the AIPVT.
